Today, we celebrate International Workers Day. As we recognize the workers who built this nation, let us honor their legacy by continuing to demand fair wages, safer workplaces, and the right to organize. That’s what I’ll keep fighting for in Congress.
After blocking bipartisan legislation to fund DHS for months, House Republicans finally allowed lawmakers to end the longest shutdown in the history of DHS. I was proud to support the legislation, ensuring federal workers can continue to receive their hard-earned paychecks.
House passes the Senate-approved DHS funding bill by a voice vote. It funds everything in DHS except ICE/CBP, including TSA, FEMA, Coast Guard, CISA. This ends a 75-day shutdown. Bill now goes to Trump to become law. www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...
American families are struggling under the GOP cost-of-living crisis—but Republicans refuse to do anything to lower costs for the people. Instead, they want to give an unaccountable ICE more money to antagonize the public. I think that funding should go toward lowering costs for families.
I believe Congress can do better than today's legislation, and it is my hope the Senate will work together to craft a truly bipartisan & comprehensive Farm Bill that provides meaningful relief to Americans who desperately need it. When that occurs, I look forward to supporting the final package.
Rather than working to lower housing, health care or grocery costs, Republicans in Congress are prioritizing another tax cut that overwhelmingly benefits the wealthiest Americans. It’s a slap in the face to working-class families that are struggling to stay afloat. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Today’s appalling decision by the Supreme Court to unilaterally gut the Voting Rights Act is not only wrong—it is deeply disrespectful of the generations of African Americans and civil rights advocates who gave their freedom, their blood, and even their lives to make it possible. My full statement:
As a direct result of the president’s disastrous war in the Middle East, gas prices are now at a multi-year high—which is crushing families in #MO05 and all across the country. It’s time that Congress put an end to this conflict before more damage is done.
U.S. gas prices hit a fresh record since the start of the war with Iran, rising to an average nationwide of $4.23 per gallon, according to the motor club AAA.
Gas prices are spiraling out of control—and Missouri families are paying the price. It’s time that Congress put an end to the president’s disastrous war in the Middle East before more damage is done. www.kansascity.com/news/local/a...
Whether you are a farmer in Missouri or a shrimp boat captain in Texas, American workers are paying the price for the president’s disastrous war in the Middle East. Congress must step in and put an end to this self-inflicted crisis.
The surge in diesel prices since the Iran war make it almost impossible to turn a profit, shrimp boat captains tell NBC News: "The industry is going to disappear."
It’s no secret that Congress is deeply unpopular with the American people. Last week, I spoke with Fox4KC about the need for Congress to stop the political bickering and start providing bipartisan solutions that will deliver real relief to the public. Watch here: fox4kc.com/politics/4-t...
I'm thankful that no one was seriously harmed at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and I'm grateful to the law enforcement officers who prevented a tragedy. Political violence has absolutely no place in America—and the perpetrator should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The man suspected in the White House correspondents’ dinner shooting wrote a statement saying he wanted to target members of President Trump’s administration, according to law enforcement officials. Follow more updates here:
As a time when families are already struggling, the president’s disastrous war in the Middle East is costing Missourians across the Show Me State hundreds of millions of dollars at the gas pump. They deserve better.
By accounting for climate change in the management of Superfund sites, we can safeguard American families from the toxic waste contained at sites vulnerable to natural disasters. That’s why I introduced the Preparing Superfund for Climate Change Act. ecomagazine.com/news/policy/...
We all know that Kansas City is one of the most beautiful cities in the world—and our architects are influencing design globally. Enjoyed talking with the National Organization of Black Architects this week about the fantastic work being done in KC and how we can build on this legacy.
As freedom fighters in Ukraine continue to defend their homeland from Russian aggression, my office met with Missourians of the Ukraine Action Summit this week to discuss opportunities to partner with Ukraine and harness their new military technologies. America must continue to stand with Ukraine!
Labor is the backbone of the American economy—and union jobs are the cornerstone upon which the middle class was built. Always happy to meet with NABTU, IBEW, Pipe Fitters Local 533, and other local labor groups to discuss federal investments and new projects that benefit workers in #MO05!
