As the Trump Admin works to turn back the clock on civil rights, including fair housing laws, I joined Rep. Waters, @warren.senate.gov, and 100+ Democrats to demand an end to the illegal cuts being made at HUD that will exacerbate discrimination in housing. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/17/r...
Co-president Musk said last week that Social Security and the critical services provided by the Social Security Administration were on the chopping block, putting the benefits of America’s seniors at risk. @housedemocrats.bsky.social will fight these cuts with everything we have.
The cuts underway at the agency could break critical parts of a system millions of vulnerable citizens rely on. If you're a current or former Social Security employee and want to talk confidentially, you can reach out to Emily Peck on Signal at EmilyRPeck.71 or emily.peck@axios.com
“President Donald Trump’s whipsawing trade spat with America’s biggest trading partners has spurred high levels of uncertainty among consumers & businesses. That skittishness has been evident across many consumer surveys and now shoppers seem to be adjusting their purchasing behavior accordingly.”
Spending at US retailers last month was much weaker than expected, in a troubling sign that the American shopper could be starting to tap out.
Wishing a very happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone celebrating in #MO05! Today, while we honor Irish American tradition, culture, and heritage, I hope all those observing have a chance to celebrate with family and friends.
Proud to stand with civil servants in #MO05 and across the Kansas City region this weekend. Together, we will fight back against the illegal purge of hardworking federal employees who provide essential services to our neighbors and fellow Americans.
My thoughts and prayers are with the families devastated by the horrific storm systems that ripped across the U.S. this weekend. As we mourn the tragic losses, let us come together to support those in need. www.cbsnews.com/news/weather...
Because Americans pushed back against the Trump Administration’s lawlessness, thousands of public servants will keep their jobs & hardworking families will be able to obtain the services they need. Together, we all must continue to fight back against the effort to purge America’s civil service.
BREAKING: Judge in mass firing case orders the Trump administration to reinstate probationary federal workers across multiple agencies.
Happy Holi to all those observing in #MO05 and around the world! As we celebrate the arrival of spring, may this day bring you joy and happiness by enjoying the festival of colors with friends and family.
The GOP control the House, the Senate, and the White House. They chose to exclude Democrats from the process and instead passed an extremely partisan bill that cuts veterans benefits, nutrition assistance, and more. @housedemocrats.bsky.social will not be extorted into supporting this madness.
"House Republicans and Donald Trump have passed a partisan spending bill that will hurt everyday Americans. That's the problem." — House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries on why Democrats will reject the GOP's funding bill as a shutdown draws near msnbc.com/mj
Any attempt to privatize the USPS would be a betrayal to the more than 640,000 postal employees who work tirelessly every day to ensure mail is delivered to every corner of the country. I joined @budzinski.house.gov & 150+ Democrats to condemn USPS privatization efforts by the Trump administration.
I’m pleased the Trump Administration has resumed aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, which is essential to deterring Putin and his despicable invasion of a sovereign nation. We must continue to #StandWithUkraine in the fight for freedom.
The resumption of U.S. aid and intelligence sharing following peace talks in Jeddah has reignited hope in Kyiv that Washington is willing to be a partner in ending the war with Russia, even as resistance to a ceasefire mounted in Russia.
The richest man in the world wants to slash benefits Americans have spent a lifetime working toward. While President Trump and Congressional Republicans are enabling these efforts, @housedemocrats.bsky.social are fighting to protect these vital programs for the people!
Elon Musk has made clear that he wants to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. The House Republican partisan funding bill utterly fails to protect these vital benefits. That's why Democrats are united to stop it.
President Trump’s purge of the Department of Education is an attempt to dismantle the public education system that has made the U.S. a global leader in scientific research and created economic prosperity for millions of Americans. All to fund a tax cut that overwhelming benefits the wealthiest 1%.
The Department of Education will begin sweeping layoffs tonight with about half of its 4,400 employees expected to be let go, sources tell CNN. Read more: cnn.it/41IhB4h
Always a pleasure to sit down with city leaders from #MO05 to discuss how Congress can support local initiatives that will strengthen economic development and public safety for Missouri families. Thanks to Mayor DeLong of North Kansas City and Mayor Baird of Lee’s Summit for your time this week!
The Trump Admin’s detention and attempted deportation of Mahmoud Khalil, without charging him with a crime, is a chilling assault on the First Amendment and every American’s right to free speech. Whatever you think of his views, stripping him of his rights makes it easier to strip you of yours.
BREAKING: Judge orders the Trump administration not to deport a Palestinian activist pending legal fight over his detention.
