I fully support the Department of Defense and the critical mission it carries out. However, I wouldn’t trust Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth with $150 — let alone $150 billion. ⬇️
100 days in and Trump has not fulfilled his number one promise: to bring down the cost of living. He hasn't lifted a finger to bring down the cost of everyday needs like groceries, rent, child care, and more.
Secretary Noem wrote the Women, Peace and Security Act when she was in the House. Secretary Rubio was a leading supporter in the Senate. Donald Trump signed it into law during his first term. Is Secretary Hegseth calling President Trump, Secretary Rubio, and Secretary Noem woke left wing activists?
I stopped by the site of the future Santa Margarita Fire Department! We on the Central Coast know how devastating fires can be. That's why I'm working to secure funding to ensure that Santa Margarita has the resources they need to fight fires and save lives.
The Central Coast is a world leader in medical research, but federal funding for these programs is now at risk. I met with UAW 4811, the union for University of California workers, to discuss how Trump's budget cuts to biomedical and health research funding are harming local universities.
The Trump administration is attacking higher education nationwide. I sat down with the leaders of Santa Barbara City College to hear how the assault on education has been impacting students, faculty, and critical research efforts here at home.
I met with Ventura County firefighters in Ojai to discuss the unique challenges the community faces—from wildfire preparedness to emergency response. I'll continue working to support our firefighters and other first responders.
Early intervention is an important step toward ending homelessness. Grateful to Mesa Farm’s Executive Director and team for supporting at-risk youth in Ojai with housing, job training, and mental health care. Their work is changing lives.
I was in Summerland to officially open the Padaro and Summerland segments of Hwy 101. This investment into our road infrastructure will relieve traffic congestion, strengthen our local economy, and honor local veterans through the new Blue Star Memorial Highway designation.
Had a great conversation with local high school students about public service and today’s big issues—from tariffs to government funding. It was inspiring to hear from the next generation of leaders. 📚
The veterans who put their lives on the line to defend our country shouldn’t have to face barriers in accessing their care. I met with Ojai’s American Legion Post 482 to hear about the impacts of current shortfalls in the VA health care system.
I was in Santa Barbara today to say loud and clear: Hands off Social Security. On the Central Coast, close to 150,000 people depend on Social Security—and we won’t let Trump gut it for another billionaire tax break.
Had a productive meeting with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office in Ojai to discuss public safety priorities for the city—including protecting USPS mail. Grateful for their work keeping our community safe. Also, fun fact about Ojai: The city is an official elephant sanctuary! 🐘
On Yom HaShoah, we honor the memories of the six million innocent Jewish people murdered during the Holocaust at the hands of the Nazi regime. It is our duty to fight against hate to ensure such a horrific atrocity is never repeated.
