While the FAA shifts blame for unnecessary travel delays, the reality is in the +1 year that I've demanded more air traffic controllers in Austin, our control tower has less staff, not more.
It's past time for the FAA to do its job and prioritize Austin for more safety measures.

Weight loss drugs can be life-changing, but Big Pharma price gouging makes treatment unaffordable for most.
Rather than forcing Medicare and Medicaid to offer medications it can't afford, I'm urging President Biden to lower prices by authorizing generic competition.
The Tunisian National Guard is committing grave human rights violations against Black migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
With colleagues, we're urging @secblinken.bsky.social to uphold democratic principles and suspend security assistance funded by taxpayers to the Tunisian National Guard.
Over a year ago, the FAA Administrator told me Austin’s understaffing of air traffic controllers was “as bad as it gets.”
Today, it's worse.
Until the FAA prioritizes more personnel & tools for our control tower, travelers will not have the safety they deserve.

The Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus brought the holiday spirit to my Washington office.
The bandura, a Ukrainian multi-string instrument, has been a powerful instrument to lift Ukraine through its fraught history, from Stalin’s purges and great famine in the 1930s to Putin’s full-scale invasion today.
Pleased to get an update on her success and thankful for her service to our country’s security. 3/3
…and soon resumes her work at the Pentagon with military construction projects.
Previously she was an Air Force ROTC instructor at The University of Texas at Austin and still has family in South Austin -- her husband, a USAF pilot, and a 2-year-old son. 2/3
Years ago, I nominated graduating Bowie High School student Katie Deiters to the Air Force Academy. Now she is a civil engineer, who has served our nation for over a decade, and become a Major.
She is completing a year at the Capitol as a defense fellow for my colleague, Congresswoman Susie Lee…1/3

On this day, the course of our nation's history was forever changed.
Today, we honor the servicemembers who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor and continue to honor the servicemembers from all backgrounds who bravely serve.
Now, Trump is touting plans for mass deportations, which is just another name for family separation.
A new documentary, "Separated," explores this issue deeper, and will broadcast tomorrow at 8 pm CT on MSNBC. (2/2)
Donald Trump's separation policy was designed to terrorize immigrant parents from coming to the US in search of a better life by stripping them away from their children.
To this day, hundreds of children are still not reunited with their parents.
We agree that our great American experiment has survived because citizens have prioritized their institutions over individual leaders—a lesson to remember for the challenging times ahead. (2/2)
Pleased to discuss with @fareedzakaria2.bsky.social his new book, Age of Revolutions, and its insights on the importance of America’s founding ideals of freedom, individual rights, and democracy as well as his observations on a number of international issues. (1/2)
For over a year, I've been urging the FAA to prioritize our Austin airport for more air traffic controller recruits and more tools for their use.
With the holiday season in swing, I will continue pushing for more action to ensure the safety of all air travelers.
We can reduce the dangers of hotter and hotter; we know how.
We only need willpower, and sufficient citizen demands for action. (2/2)
While our 6 months of the hottest summer appear to have ended, new reports now indicate that we are experiencing the hottest fall on record in Austin.
Longer, hotter summers lie ahead in coming years as too many of our leaders remain caught up in fossilized thinking.

Ultimately, it is engaged citizens who can protect democracy. Any imposition of martial law by a US President would be a sure indicator of a major turn toward tyranny. (2/2)
Declaring martial law represents a dangerous departure from democracy. Wrongful imposition today by the president of South Korea is now being reversed within hours because of a strong expression of public protest and outrage. (1/2)
I am pleased she could contribute to our efforts in strengthening cooperation with our close and important ally, Norway. Wishing her success as she begins this important and exciting next chapter of her career. (2/2)
