Pennsylvanians are already feeling the effects of this government shutdown and the looming health care crisis. Pennsylvania House Democrats stand united in calling on the Speaker to end House Republicans' paid vacation and bring us all back to work in DC. Why won't PA Republicans join us?
Pennsylvania's 7 House Democrats Urge Republican Colleagues to Join Call for Speaker Johnson to Bring House Back into Voting Session
Representatives Dwight Evans, Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), Madeleine Dean (PA-04), Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05), Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06), Summer Lee (PA-12), and Chris Deluzio (PA-17) issued the following statement:
“Every day this Republican shutdown drags on, the harm to Pennsylvania families grows deeper. We urge our 10 Republican House colleagues from Pennsylvania to join us in calling on Speaker Mike Johnson to bring the House back to Washington. We stand ready to work together on a bipartisan solution that reopens the government and protects affordable health care for Pennsylvanians in all 17 congressional districts who now face skyrocketing premiums or the loss of coverage altogether.”
Almost 500,000 Philadelphians, who rely on SNAP to put healthy food on the table, will see their benefits come to a halt at the end of the month. This is yet another reason House Republicans need to end their 34-day paid vacation and get back to work in Washington.
24 million Americans are about to see a shutdown of their health care. 2 million Pennsylvanians are about to lose their SNAP benefits. Federal workers are missing their paychecks. But right now- “the ballroom is really the president’s main priority.”
Americans just want to be able to afford their health care and put food on the table. Meanwhile Trump is demolishing the White House to build a ballroom, signing some merch, and giving a $20 billion bailout to his right-wing crony in Argentina.

Hey #Philly! If you're voting by mail in the upcoming election here are some important reminders: 📬Apply for a mail-in ballot by Tuesday, 10/28 🖊️Carefully read the instructions and complete the front & back of the ballot 🗳️Make sure your ballot is received by 8 PM on Election Day, 11/4
Thanks to Republicans’ massive ACA & Medicaid cuts, hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians are going to see a shutdown of their health care. As one Pennsylvanian said: it’s “going to be catastrophic." This is why I’m fighting alongside fellow House Dems to protect access to affordable health care.
If you are already seeing your health care premiums increasing- I want to hear from you! Share your health care story with my office here: evans.house.gov/story
As a Philly small business owner told my office: “I’m stuck between a rock and an even harder rock.” Millions of small business owners and employees rely on the ACA Marketplace for affordable health care. Their health care costs will skyrocket if Republicans fail to extend these tax credits.
Graphic with Philadelphia skyline and quote: “As a small business owner, subsidies were the only way I could afford healthcare. The risk of losing the subsidy is daunting enough. My premium is about to triple. I'm considering closing up shop to get a 9-5 with benefits but the job market is abysmal. I'm stuck between a rock and an even harder rock.”
