Republicans’ budget rips health care away from nearly 500,000 Pennsylvanians. Each one of them is a real person whose life is at stake. I'm fighting against this reckless budget for Gianna, Ramona, Rowan, Melissa & everyone in PA who rely on Medicaid/Medical Assistance. (📸: Philadelphia Inquirer)
Melissa Rinker, 42, of Doylestown, has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a connective tissue disorder that puts her at risk for dislocating joints and contributes to mobility issues. Medicaid covers a home health aide for 48 hours a week, plus needed medications and doctor's visits.
Larissa “Lolly” Hopwood, 46, of Doylestown relies on Medicaid to help cover medications and specialist visits for her son, Rowan Hopwood, 16, who has Type 1 diabetes.
Charles Patton Jr., 41, with his mom Ramona Patton, 69, in the home where he takes care of his mother in South Philadelphia.
Twanda Eakins, 53, with her daughter Gianna Showell, 14, at their home in Telford. Eakins says Medicaid coverage paid for her daughter's lifesaving mental health treatment.
When nurses say “Don’t cut Medicaid” - I LISTEN, and Congressional Republicans should too! I was glad to meet with Pennsylvania nurses from the American Nurses Association to talk about the impact of the GOP’s disastrous budget on their patients, as well as hospitals and nursing homes.
HAPPENING RIGHT NOW: The Senate is voting on Trump’s #BigUglyBill! This disastrous budget scheme would strip health care away from nearly 500,000 Pennsylvanians and lead to over a dozen nursing home closures across our Commonwealth, including Inglis House right here in Philly!
Republicans are putting 17 million lives at risk in their “Big Beautiful Bill.” These are more than just numbers. These are real people who deserve to live a life without worrying they will go broke if they need health care.
After some discussions this weekend and thoughtful reflection, I have decided that the time is right to announce that I will not be seeking re-election in 2026. I remain in good health and will serve out the full term that ends Jan. 3, 2027. My full statement below:
The most unpopular policy in this deeply unpopular bill, including among Republicans? "Reducing federal funding for food assistance to low-income households." #ProtectSNAP
A plurality of Americans oppose President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, with mixed opinions on specific provisions and concerns about its impact on the national debt and Medicaid, according to a Post-Ipsos poll.
CHILDRENS HOSPITAL ASSN ON GOP BUDGET "a crisis for children's health care, hospitals, and providers" "your child – regardless of their insurance status – could see the services they rely on reduced or eliminated "fewer doctors & nurses to see your child, longer wait times, and sicker children"
Right now, no one knows: -how large the Medicaid cuts are -how many people will lose health insurance -how large the tax cuts are -who wins/loses by how much -how much it adds to the deficit Rs are going at lightning speed BECAUSE they want to pass the “big beautiful bill” before anyone knows
The reconciliation bill the US Senate is rushing to pass will hurt Pennsylvanians. It will rip away health care and SNAP benefits for folks who need them most and threaten rural hospitals and our energy industry. The bill will damage Pennsylvania and I urge a vote against it.
Senator Mitch McConnell is simply out of touch. The 16 MILLION Americans who will lose their health care won’t just “get over it.” That includes over 250,000 Pennsylvanians! I voted NO on the Big Billionaires Bill & I’ll vote NO again if it comes back from the Senate!
Since Trump returned to office, I hear constantly from my constituents about what is happening at Social Security. I proudly spoke on their behalf at yesterday's @waysmeanscmte.bsky.social hearing and reminded Commissioner Bisignano what this EARNED benefit means to millions of Americans.
Hey Congressional Republicans! As a witness said to me during yesterday’s @waysmeanscmte.bsky.social health hearing: “My first suggestion would be to go back to the drawing board and try again on a different budget bill that doesn’t result in millions of people losing their health insurance.”
Today, we celebrate #EqualityDay and the landmark SCOTUS decisions in Lawrence, Windsor, & Obergefell! As we mark these anniversaries, let's recommit to fighting for the Equality Act, to enshrine explicit protections for the LGBTQ+ community into federal law.
While Trump is already cutting funding from the VA & restricting veterans' benefits, the House GOP’s MilCon/VA bill cuts even MORE from veterans’ health care, education, housing, and food assistance. I proudly voted NO on this funding bill & will continue to stand with our vets.
🚨 ON THE FLOOR: House GOP ’s MilCon VA bill would scam veterans out of quality medical care and line the coffers of corporate hospitals. Dems won’t stop fighting back—watch us in action: live.house.gov
