I stand firmly with the people of Chicago and will continue to fight against this unjust action.
These projects are vital for the economic development and connectivity of underserved neighborhoods on Chicago’s South Side. Delaying them disrupts years of planning and investment and harms residents who rely on improved transit options for employment, education, and daily life.
This action, justified under the guise of concerns over “race-based contracting,” is part of a broader pattern targeting Democratic-led cities during the ongoing Republican-made government shutdown.
The Trump administration’s decision to withhold $2.1 billion in federal infrastructure funding for Chicago is a politically motivated move that undermines the needs of our communities.
Trump has suggested turning U.S. cities into military training grounds and expanded ICE crackdowns on immigrants across the country. Pope Leo is right, that isn’t pro-life.
Remember when we warned you about #Project2025 and
#DonaldTrump said he knew NOTHING about it? Well, now he is finally admitting that the #HeritageFoundation is essentially running the Federal Government. Everything that is happening and that will happen is already laid out
Your leadership as Africa’s most populous democracy inspires the world, and we honor the lasting connections that strengthen our shared heritage and promote unity across the African diaspora.
Congratulations to Nigeria on your National Day of Independence! We celebrate your sovereignty, rich cultural heritage including Nollywood and Afrobeat, and the profound literary contributions of icons like Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka.
With the federal government shutting down, many are wondering what this means for them. For resources and assistance, please call my office at (773) 779-2400 or visit my website.

Only Republicans can stop this shutdown — and they’re nowhere in D.C.
@HouseDemocrats reflect America’s future: Diverse, Vibrant, and Committed to protecting #Healthcare for working families. MAGA Republicans reflect the waiting room of a retirement home. Won't let the party of the past, steal America's FUTURE! Stop the #TrumpShutdown
House Republicans can’t be bothered to show up for work. Instead, they’d rather #shutdown the government while families in #Chicago struggle to afford insulin, keep their kids on #Medicaid, and hold onto the #healthcare they’ve already paid for @housedemocrats.bsky.social are here and ready

Honored to have joined CBC week with @jonathanjackson.house.gov and foreign ministers of Colombia and South Africa.
I spoke about my grandfather's fight alongside Gandhi for democracy & the connection with civil rights leaders whose work paved the way for my family and so many to come to the US.
The #TrumpsGovernmentShutdown is a defining moment for our nation. While @HouseDemocrats are prepared to negotiate for the American people, the White House is holding the country hostage—demanding an end to #Healthcare for millions. We cannot let #Billionaires strip families of affordable care.

Shameful. The political persecution of James Comey is a direct assault on the American tradition of an impartial justice system. We must resist every effort to turn the federal government into a machine for settling personal and political scores. This is a moment to stand for what is right.
This is an outrageous perversion of our civil rights laws. The DOJ is using "clean voter rolls" as a dog whistle for purging voters. This isn't about election integrity—it's a transparent plot to disenfranchise citizens and steal the 2026 election. We will not stand for it.
Turkey was barred from buying F-35s after purchasing Russian S-400 air defense systems. Handing them the world’s most advanced fighter now risks exposing $2T worth of Allied jets to enemy detection & fire. Doing so would betray our allies and undermine global defense partnerships
#MAGA Republicans control the House, Senate & White House; yet blame @HouseDemocrats for THEIR #GovernmentShutdown Without ACA subsidies, MILLIONS lose affordable care. They’re holding YOUR healthcare hostage & threatening mass federal firings to force through there BILLIONAIRE agenda
They discussed pathways to a peaceful and sustainable resolution to the conflict in eastern Congo and explored efforts to strengthen Central Africa’s critical mineral supply chains to benefit the Congolese people and support regional economic development.
