This year, Father's Day & Summer Solstice also coincided with "Asking Saves Kids (ASK) Day." This is an important reminder that secure storage of guns in the home is paramount to the safety of families & communities. Learn about safe firearm storage at endfamilyfire.org. #GunViolencePreventionMonth
Today is #ASKDay. Before your child visits a friend’s house, ask: “Is there an unlocked gun where my child plays?” Parents ask about allergies, pets, and pools. Asking about unsecured firearms should be just as normal. One question could save a child's life. #AskingSavesKids
75 years ago, the world made a promise: people fleeing persecution deserve protection. The Trump Administration turned its back on people seeking refuge weakening the values that protect us all. @unhcr.orgs theme is a powerful reminder that when protection is weakened for some it is weakened for all
After the sudden passing of Spencer Leak Jr., may we honor him not only with words, but with works. May we protect the institutions he strengthened. May we cherish the Black family businesses that have held our communities together through migration, segregation, violence, pandemic, & grief.
Congratulations to Cape Verde on playing their first-ever men’s World Cup finals match! It is shameful that the U.S. Administration has created such division like the visa issues the Player of the Match, Vozinha’s mother faced, that made her unable to witness this moment and support her son.
#DACA14- I stand in solidarity with DREAMers who are under attack by this Administration. DACA recipients are Americans who enrich our communities & are essential to our nation. They deserve security & a pathway to citizenship. Pass @sylviagarcia.house.gov's American Dream & Promise Act. #HomeisHere
On March 11, President Trump said “In the first hour it was over.” But over 2500 hours later, the conflict is still raging. I remain concerned that such an opaque diplomatic process has been undertaken and very few details are available. Congress must exercise oversight on any accord with Iran.
Today in 1775, the Army was established & in 1777, the flag was adopted. As we wish a happy 251st birthday to @usarmy.bsky.social and 249th birthday to the flag, we also honor sacrifices so many made to protect what the “red, white & blue” symbolizes: freedom, hope, & equality at home and abroad.
As the DRC & Uganda are grappling with one of the worst Ebola outbreaks in history, @amo.house.gov, @robinkelly.house.gov, & I were joined by 74 of our colleagues to hold this administration to account over their illegal, unnecessary, and cruel cuts to global health and disease prevention programs.
Honored to join my colleagues, Ambassador Tai, @pcgtw.bsky.social, and @uaw.org to discuss ways we can deliver for working-class people across the industrial Midwest. RSVP to join this important conversation!
🚨CHICAGO: Elites on both sides of the aisle have supported disastrous free trade deals. We’re on the road to talk to working people about what comes next. Join us on the 15th with @chuygarcia.house.gov, @ramirez.house.gov, @jonathanjackson.house.gov, and Amb. Katherine Tai.
The U.S. - through the generosity of the American people -provided life-saving aid to build long-term solutions to poverty and disease around the world. Rolling this back is cruel, unnecessary, and harms Americans. Great to speak with you @congresswalker.bsky.social
BREAKING: @jonathanjackson.house.gov exposed Sec. Rubio for helping Trump cut foreign aid including for HIV/AIDS care. The death toll from these cuts has already climbed into the hundreds of thousands, predominantly affecting children in the developing world #health #news #politics #trump #america
As Haitian Heritage Month ends, I honor the Haitian roots woven into Chicago’s history. Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable- the Father of Chicago- laid the foundation for the vibrant, world-class city we know today. Haitians have long strengthened the cultural, economic, & social fabric of this nation.
