On #WorldCandyDay, we celebrate the joy that a simple sweet can bring and the hardworking hands that make it possible. In Bryan, Ohio, Spangler Candy has brought smiles to generations with Dum-Dums, Bit-O-Honey, and more. Their legacy is candy, tradition, and the spirit of NW Ohio craftsmanship.

“We cannot roll back the clock to a former era where America became economically paralyzed due to oil embargoes and dirty manufacturing.” Thank you @repmarcykaptur.bsky.social for standing up to Trump and Congressional Republicans’ attacks on clean energy 👇
This is basic stuff. This bill makes life harder for working families. It adds debt we can’t afford, gives nothing back to our communities, and rewards the wealthy at everyone else’s expense. We're fighting for families and pushing for budgets that invest in our communities—not in Billionaires.
The GOP are now attacking the nonpartisan budget office for sharing the data. They are non-political and made up of independent experts. But because the numbers make them look bad, Republicans leaders and Press Sec. Karoline Leavitt are trying to discredit the messenger instead of fixing the mess.
This bill is loaded with wasteful pork and backroom deals. Even Musk called it a “pork-filled disgusting abomination.” While Ohio families face high costs, Republicans wrote a bill that helps the wealthy and hurts the rest of us. They claim it’s “fiscal responsibility” but the numbers say otherwise.
11 Million people will lose health insurance. Over 7.8 Million will be kicked off Medicaid. More will lose coverage through the ACA. Families, seniors, kids—all left with nothing, while Billionaires and big corporations pocket more $$. That’s cruelty wrapped in fine print and packaged as "reform.”
🧵 Congress’s nonpartisan scorekeeper has confirmed that the "One Big Beautiful Bill" House GOP passed will cost $2.4 TRILLION. That’s Trillion—with a T. It will blow up the deficit and rip health care away from MILLIONS. Everyday Americans will pay the price for giveaways they’ll never benefit from.
As the GOP recklessly slashes and burns in DC they’re also erasing history nationwide — now it’s civil rights icon Harvey Milk. Doing this during Pride Month sends a clear message: the GOP wants LGBTQ+ history erased. Working American families need relief from rising costs — not shameful politics.
With smoke and hazy air affecting parts of North America and many NW Ohio communities, our hearts are with our Canadian neighbors facing these fires. We send strength to all affected. This is a stark reminder: the climate crisis is here, and we must commit to bold, urgently needed lasting action.
Heartfelt prayers for the families, victims, and entire Jewish community of Boulder, Colorado after yesterday’s attack. Antisemitism, hatred, and division should have no place in our American communities.
Today as June begins, may President Trump use all his persuasive power and impose further sanctions on Russia, or work with Congress to do so. I hope that we can soon bring the warring parties to negotiate an end to this unnecessary and costly war defiling Europe and our planet.
Despite the odds, Ukraine’s soldiers and citizenry have nobly resisted Russia’s invasion since 2014 to regain their Liberty. This comes while Russia also is enlisting thousands of North Korean troops who are being forced to fight by their Dictator Kim Jong Un.
Russia is the 3rd largest military in world. It encompasses 11 time zones and is rich in oil and minerals. Its population is more than 3 times the size of Ukraine. Nonetheless Putin covets the territory of Ukraine, the lowest income nation in Europe.
🧵 For the continuing horror Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has exacted on the people and free nation of Ukraine, this multiple strike by Ukrainian drones on key Russian military air field assets is long overdue.
Great to join civic leaders and the NW Ohio community to welcome the first Great Lakes Cruise Ship to dock at port in Toledo in more than 20 years. I hope all of our new visitors enjoy taking in the sights, and all our great region and people have to offer! 🚢
The termination of $3.7 Billion in DOE investments including $60 Million for NW OH is a direct attack on American workers. Cancelling critical projects threatens good paying jobs, weakens industries and cedes ground to China. This Administration continues to abandon a clean and secure energy future.

Holy Trump tariff whiplash, Batman! A court invalidated many tariffs last night but today another court revived them. Please join me for a brief guided what-it-means tour of 24 hrs of tariff drama starting w/ the US Court of Int’l Trade (USCIT) ending tariffs by 6/7/25… 🧵
Screenshot of a court judgment dated May 28, 2025. The judgment declares that four executive orders issued in 2025—Executive Orders 14193, 14194, 14195, and 14257—related to imposing duties to address illicit drug flows, border issues, the synthetic opioid supply chain, and trade deficits with China, are collectively invalid and contrary to law. The court further orders that the operation of these "Challenged Tariff Orders," including any modifications and amendments, is permanently enjoined.
