Right now, China is positioning itself to win the while Washington is walking off the field. That means fewer jobs at home, higher costs for families, and lost opportunity for American businesses.
Clean energy is the fastest growing sector in the global economy. The countries that lead on solar, batteries, and electric vehicles will dominate the industries of the future.
At the same time, our president called climate change a con job and ridiculed scientists. This is not only embarrassing. It is a direct threat to our long-term economic well being.
China pledged real cuts to its emissions by 2035 and promised to multiply its wind and solar power sixfold in the next decade.
I never thought I’d see the day when America surrendered global leadership on energy security and innovation to China. But that is exactly what happened this week.

Listen to Trump’s own words regarding who is responsible for a government shutdown: “The president is the leader, and he’s got to get everybody in a room and he’s got to lead.”
“Problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top.” “I really think the pressure is on the president.” He is now refusing to meet with us, refusing to negotiate, refusing to solve anything at all. He is demonstrating the exact opposite of leadership. This is on him.

We cannot avoid this reality: if Congress fails to act, the government shuts down in 7 days. And it is not just about Washington gridlock. It is about whether millions of Americans can still afford health care. THREAD 👇

“I couldn’t care less.” That’s what the president said when asked about uniting the nation in the wake of political violence. That indifference is beneath the office. Leadership means rising above grievance, condemning violence without hesitation, and calling Americans to our better angels.

When the president says he hates his opponent and does not want the best for them, that is not leadership.  Scripture reminds us, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44).  Division cannot be the American way. We must choose respect, unity, and hope.
Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. If the government shuts down, it is because they chose to walk away from any bipartisan negotiations.
Preventive care will be cut, and lives will be lost to conditions that should never be fatal. And when the system is overrun, it doesn't matter what kind of insurance you have—EVERYONE suffers. I am ready to pass a bipartisan funding bill that protects health care, and invests in our communities.
Millions of families will be forced to choose between health care and putting food on the table. That is unacceptable. And it gets worse. The bill also pushes hospitals and clinics closer to the brink. Patients will be turned away.
