People are dying in ICE custody and immigration detention centers across the country. We won’t allow this Administration to go to church and pray on Sundays and then prey on our communities the rest of the week. We will hold them accountable.
Huge news! The redesigned Newark Bay–Hudson County Extension Improvements Program is a major step forward and includes some of the changes we proposed from the start. Proud to support this project and thankful to our partners in government and labor for working together to move this forward.
That's why I joined Reps. Jayapal & Fletcher in demanding answers after USCIS announced they would indefinitely pause the immigration process for nationals from the countries listed in Trump’s travel ban.
Denying naturalization ceremonies & canceling green card interviews for individuals who have waited years for this monumental achievement is a disservice for those who followed the law & passed every required check.
Across the country, green card applications, naturalization interviews, and even oath ceremonies are being paused or cancelled on the basis of the applicants’ national origin. @jayapal.house.gov and I led our colleagues in a letter demanding an end to this discriminatory and unjustified pause.
Such a privilege to work alongside @hudcostreets.org & so many advocates to make these changes a reality & we’ll keep working to make sure these upgrades deliver for our communities. These investments means safer, more reliable transit across our region. See you on the PATH soon!
📍 Spending time with seniors at the Joseph Connors Senior Center in Jersey City 🎄 Our seniors are the heart of our community. Great stopping by to wish some of our favorite residents a happy holidays! I'll always protect our seniors and ensure they have the resources they need. 🫶
The Trump Administration has attempted to impede our lawful oversight authority to inspect conditions of private detention facilities. Today’s deeply disturbing news is exactly why oversight is essential. Below is my statement on the reported death of an individual in detention at Delaney Hall:
Instead of doing the people’s work and saving millions of Americans from skyrocketing health insurance premiums, Republicans packed up and headed home. Disappointed but not surprised. The fight continues.
This confirms what we have said all along - Members of Congress have a legal right to visit detention facilities & it's clear that this was yet another blatant attempt by the Trump Admin to protect themselves & private prison operators from accountability.
A judge just blocked the Trump's Admin's efforts to stop us from visiting our constituents & conducting oversight at immigration detention facilities without prior notice, as the law requires.
No matter what this Administration tells the American people, the law is very clear: Members of Congress have a legal right to enter any DHS detention facility to conduct oversight without prior notice - something I’ve done twice this year without issue.
Happy Birthday, NJ! 🎉 Grateful every single day to fight for the state we all love so much in Congress, and proud to be raising my kids to be Jersey Strong. 🗽🥯
Congress must act to end Trump's unsanctioned military actions in Venezuela. As Vice Chair of Policy for the Hispanic Caucus, I joined Rep. Espaillat and other members of our leadership team in condemning the House GOP’s refusal to hold Trump to his oath of office.
Happy heavenly 67th birthday to my friend, Congressman Donald Payne Jr. He is deeply missed in New Jersey and the halls of Congress, but his legacy of justice and fearless advocacy lives on.
Democrats succeeded in forcing a vote to stop ACA premium hikes. It’s time for Speaker Johnson to immediately bring this vote to the floor & protect healthcare for all Americans
