1) Violent crime is horrific and unacceptable no matter where it occurs.
2) DC's violent crime rate is at a 30-year low.
3) Presidents have no authority to unilaterally take control of DC. Congress would have to pass a law, and I won't let the current effort get that far.

Democrats and Republicans agree that the public deserves transparency.
I support the public release of the records related to the Epstein investigation.

NPS' decision to restore and reinstall the statue of Confederate Albert Pike is indefensible. Pike served dishonorably, misappropriated funds, and was ultimately imprisoned by his fellow troops.
I'll reintroduce my bill to remove the statue.

Thanks to DOGE buyouts, 154,000 people are being paid taxpayer money not to work while critical government services like Social Security and veterans’ benefits suffer.
This is appalling.

60 years ago today, Democrats and Republicans came together to change the course of American history.
Today, only Democrats are keeping the promise to:
→ Protect Medicare.
→ Defend Medicaid.
→ Fight GOP cuts.
I introduced my bill to require the head of the DC National Guard to live in DC.
Adding a residency requirement will help ensure the Commanding General has in-depth knowledge of the issues and challenges DC residents face.

When the first Trump admin relocated parts of USDA, 2/3 of employees left rather than move, draining critical institutional knowledge and harming USDA services.
I introduced a bill to prohibit relocating agencies from the National Capital Region.

I’m concerned about the food service workers in the House during the transition of operations from Sodexo.
I urge the new operators to hire existing workers under the current terms and conditions of employment, including honoring their membership commitment to @unitehere23.
🚨Anti-DC home rule bill alert🚨
Rep. Hageman of WY and Sen. Lee of UT introduced an anti-DC home rule bill that would allow Congress to more easily overturn emergency legislation passed by the DC Council, altering the Home Rule Act.
I’ll do all I can to stop it from becoming law.
As a longtime friend – okay, frenemy – of Stephen Colbert, I support an investigation of the actions of Paramount Global in its decision to cancel the Late Show after he spoke publicly against Trump, while Paramount seeks federal approval of a major merger.
My staff sent FEMA information on DC’s water supply a full week ago – and I’ve been sounding the alarm publicly for many years.
It's alarming that the acting director of FEMA wasn't aware until yesterday that DC only has one day's supply of backup drinking water to use if its sole source is contaminated.
I can only conclude that FEMA isn't prepared to respond to this significant risk to DC & the operations of the fed gov.
I've long called for statues of Confederates and racists to be removed from locations that connote honor, and I'm proud to lead a bill with my Maryland colleagues to remove a plaque honoring avowed segregationist Frances Newlands from Chevy Chase Circle.

It's unsurprising that the DC appropriations bill reported out of a Republican-controlled subcommittee in the current Congress contains numerous riders that would overrule the expressed will of DC residents.
Its predictability makes it no less appalling.

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government will mark up the DC appropriations bill this evening at 5:30.
Watch it here: bit.ly/3IFcAnl
I introduced my bill to give DC control of its own local courts – which Congress currently controls.
It is irresponsible to leave Congress, which couldn't care less about the local DC courts, in charge of improving their operations.

I will use every tool at my disposal to stop the riders in the bill text from becoming law, and I commit to reminding my fellow lawmakers across the aisle that D.C. residents deserve the same consideration as their own constituents at every opportunity.
In my career representing DC in Congress, I've rarely seen a DC appropriations bill as unreasonable and patronizing to the 700k+ DC residents as the one released today.

Aircraft transponders broadcast location information that saves lives, yet the helicopter that collided with a plane near DCA in January had its turned off.
Today I asked Sec. Duffy about the overly broad exceptions to the rule requiring helicopter transponder use near DCA.
