At a time when polarization and partisanship are causing legislative gridlock, I'm pleased that the bipartisan surface transportation bill we're marking up today includes many victories for the nation and its capital.

The Trust for Public Land's annual ParkScore rankings are out, and DC is ranked the #1 best city for parks in the country.
Parks cover nearly 25% of DC, which means we have more parkland per capita than any other city in the US.
My constituent, Haitham Arafat, was detained by the Israeli Navy as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla.
The U.S. is obliged to protect its citizens abroad. I am working to bring him home, and I will continue to work with colleagues in Congress to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Today’s Oversight markup will be the 5th time this Congress that Rs have wasted our time on anti-home rule bills designed to interfere with DC traffic policies, a petty fixation Rep. Perry spends much of his time on — to the detriment of his constituents in PA.
Congratulations to DC's 2026 nominees for the prestigious US military service academies!
I hosted a reception honoring these exceptional young Washingtonians.
Anastasia Orlic: Naval Academy
Michael Daza: Air Force Academy
Amory Smith: Naval Academy
Oliver Hsu: West Point
I was deeply honored to receive the Lifetime Impact Award yesterday from NDSS.
This recognition has profound personal significance for me and my kind, brave daughter, Katherine. I'll always be a proud, fierce advocate for the Down syndrome community.
It's an honor to receive the 2026 Lyme & Tickborne Disease Champion Award from the Center for Lyme Action.
As a member of the Lyme Disease Caucus, I remain committed to securing the federal research and prevention funding necessary to find a cure for this debilitating chronic disease.
Today at 2:00 I'll question DoD officials about how exactly the Trump Admin's massive DoD spending, including the cost of deploying National Guard troops to DC, furthers its stated goal of reducing waste, fraud, and abuse.

I was pleased to catch up with former NPS Director Bob Stanton yesterday, who I partnered with when he served under President Clinton as the first African American to hold the position.
The Constitution grants states, not POTUS, the authority to regulate federal elections. Trump’s EO is an unconstitutional power grab that directs the USPS to obstruct mail-in ballots and disenfranchise eligible voters.
Proud to cosponsor Rep. Lynch’s bill to invalidate this illegal EO.
Many private-sector employers offer short-term disability insurance, but the federal government leaves its workers to fend for themselves in a high-cost individual market.
Today I introduced my bill to allow federal employees to purchase this insurance at group rates and at zero cost to taxpayers.

Proud to help lead @housedemocrats.bsky.social, @energycommerce.bsky.social, @democrats-judiciary.house.gov, 212 House Dems & all 47 Senate Dems in an amicus brief to #SCOTUS urging them to reject the Fifth Circuit's decision & protect medication abortion access.
As the first woman to chair the EEOC, I've spent my career working to ensure equality for women, but more must be done to address structural disparities in the workforce.
I introduced my bill to require men and women doing comparable work to receive comparable pay.
I introduced my resolution to designate today, May 1st – or 5/1 – as #DCStatehood Day.
Although every day is appropriate to highlight the need to make DC the 51st state, 5-1 is especially symbolic.
It’s time to turn this calendar coincidence into a legislative reality.
As we are denied our own vote in Congress, DC residents are natural allies in the fight for equal representation. Yesterday’s outrageous SCOTUS decision only strengthens our resolve.
Congress must pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and restore real voting protections for all.
Congratulations to DC’s Congressional Art Competition winners!
🥇Max William Padilla, School Without Walls, “A Sunday’s Morning”
🥈Sophia Grossman, Holton-Arms, “A Practice in Patience”
🥉Katia Rodriguez, Capitol City Public Charter School, “Ballet Dancers”
Max’s art will be hung in the Capitol.
Although I'm pleased no new anti-DC riders were added during the DC appropriations bill markup, I'm outraged at the number and scope of the riders that remain in it.
Lawmakers from other districts shouldn't dictate DC policy.
I'll continue to fight the riders from becoming law.
A federal court blocked NPS from removing the 15th St bike lanes, citing a failure to address data showing a 91% drop in bike injuries.
The opinion highlights the letter my colleagues and I sent opposing the removal.
It's a win for DC & sustainable transit.
Last week was #BlackMaternalHealthWeek. In DC, the mortality rate for infants born to Black mothers is 2x that of Hispanic mothers and 10x that of white mothers.
Black women and children deserve equitable health care. We must bridge this gap now. #BMHW26
Countless veterans use law school clinical programs for pro bono assistance with their claims waiting to be processed by the VA.
Today, I reintroduced my bill to allow the VA to provide funding for these clinics.
