Congrats!
If you don’t mind me asking, how long did this process take you? I’ve been thinking about it, but have been intimidated by trying to do so while doing my day job.
My family’s hometown created a no discourse zone 🚫
(There are also lots of people who are super kind!!)
The place I used to waitress at was often frequented by public figures of varying conduct (including politicians).
Sometimes I meet them now & when they ask me where I used to work, I get to watch the blood drain from their face as they put 2+2 together between how they acted and what I witnessed😌
I just want a place to poast and roast without a) nazis and b) the New York Times writing an editorial about it like “aoc said nazis are bad. Is she wrong? We went on a diner date with harlan crow’s PR guy to find out”
We have ranked choice voting in NYC and it’s had a promising start! We pair it with publicly financed elections, which I think works best.
RCV nationally would still largely have to happen on a state-by-state basis (look at how elections happen in CA and Alaska, for example - state law did that)

The filters fought valiantly for their lives last night, and lost 🍑
It’s a backpack! 🎒
Good morning Bluesky 🌞
Have you called your city councilperson about it? You can also call my office
The flip side of that is having a public/media that can maturely handle mistakes. The price of authenticity is public flaws.
People say they don’t like inauthenticity, but mistakes are effectively weaponized in politics. Inauthentic, sanitized personas can be a defense mechanism, among other things
Think about what people/communities whose opinion you *do* care about. You can even write them down and draw a circle around it.
When you focus on the opinions you do respect, it devalues the noise.
That said I’m not going to pretend stuff doesn’t get to me!But the scale it requires is much bigger
💯
Politics is both electoral and non-electoral (I’m looking for a better term than that). Change requires both.
People interested in electoral work also don’t need to run for office. There’s field, comms, etc. There are shockingly few women/poc/lgbt+/working class campaign managers, & we need them
💯. One of the biggest mistakes I see w/ campaigns is they make it too much about the candidate.
It’s counterintuitive bc campaigns in a literal + functional sense are about electing a candidate to office. But the best campaigns aren’t really abt the candidate - they organize ppl to a bigger mission
One example of my boundaries when I first ran was “I need to be me.”
In politics it’s common and acceptable to edit yourself and appear a certain way for electability. I personally can’t do that, it makes me unhappy. So I needed to win as me, or not at all. Guided and shaped a lot of decisions.
It’s beautiful! 👗

Alignment stats consider only votes where a clear yes/no majority existed for the legislator's party. Cross-party marks divergence where the vote matched the opposite party majority. ↔ indicates cross-party divergence.
