This #MemorialDay, we remember the heroes who gave their lives in service to our country. We honor their legacy by serving the living. That’s why I reintroduced the #MajorRichardStarAct with the Wounded Warrior Project to ensure veterans receive both their retirement pay & disability benefits.
With the Spreckels Sugar Plant already shutting down, our communities can’t take another economic blow. This isn’t just about jobs, it’s about families, stability, and the future of our region. Together, we can chart a more equitable and sustainable path forward for the Imperial Valley.
I joined @magaziner.house.gov and @degette.house.gov to talk about what Medicaid cuts would mean for our communities, from RI to CO to CA. Millions could lose health care. Hospitals could shut down. We should be strengthening our health care system, not tearing it down when people need it most.
What the hell is wrong with House Republicans? After an all-night debate, House Republicans just passed a bill that: ❌ Slashes food assistance and SNAP ❌ Guts health care and Medicaid for working families 💰 And still adds over $5 trillion to the national debt?
It’s 1AM in Washington and the Republicans’ “Big Ugly Bill” just got even uglier. They’re coming for Medicaid and SNAP, but we are not backing down. I’ll be here as long as it takes to defend these programs that millions rely on. I’ll keep you posted.
Today, I’m at the Rules Committee, the final stop before Trump’s “Big Ugly Bill” heads to the House Floor.
This bill slashes Medicaid and SNAP, driving up everyday costs just to hand out tax breaks to billionaires.
I’m here — showing up, sharing your stories, and fighting for you.
I just signed a discharge petition to repeal Trump’s tariff tax on Canada and Mexico. Families are already feeling the pressure, and I’m taking action to stop everyday costs from rising. Let’s focus on lowering prices, not making them worse.
Despite the deliberate and targeted act of domestic terrorism, our communities are safe. Tonight, I spoke on the House Floor to thank our first responders and to tell the people of Palm Springs: my heart is with you, and I stand by you.
Here’s what we know so far about the bombing at the American Reproductive Centers IVF facility in Palm Springs. To our communities: My heart is with you. I’m standing with you, and we’ll get through this together. I’ll continue to share updates as I receive them. Stay tuned.
Let’s not lose sight: the fight to protect Medicaid isn’t about numbers—it’s about people. I shared the stories of two constituents, Victoria and Stephen, who rely on Medicaid for the essential care they need to survive.
Republicans say their bill won’t touch traditional Medicaid. But here’s the truth: their deep Medicaid cuts mean higher costs for hospitals, putting Labor & Delivery, Pediatrics, and even whole hospitals on the line. @energycommerce.bsky.social
This week, Republicans marked up a bill to take health care and food assistance away from millions of Americans in order to pay for tax breaks for Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. The Democratic Doctors Caucus will stop at nothing to prevent these reckless cuts and stand up for our communities.
Democratic Doctors Caucus Condemn Republican Cuts to Medicaid:

“The goal of the Republican budget is clear: sacrifice the health and well-being of millions of Americans by slashing Medicaid and gutting food assistance, all to hand $4.5 trillion in tax breaks to billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. As doctors, we’ve seen firsthand what happens when patients lose coverage: missed appointments, skipped medications and preventable conditions left untreated. These cuts won’t just strain the system—they will cost lives. These aren’t numbers on a spreadsheet—they represent real people, real suffering and real consequences. The Democratic Doctors Caucus will stop at nothing to prevent these reckless cuts and stand up for our communities. The American people deserve better.”
