On this day in 2013, women servicemembers were finally permitted to enter direct combat – an important equalizing step for those willing to serve our country.

Affordable housing is the bedrock upon which our diverse communities are able to grow and flourish. I was happy to host Pat Combs, a career-long leader in local real estate, to discuss the multitude of ways we can increase access to affordable housing in MI-03.

It not only dismantled government DEI agencies but revoked a 1965 executive order prohibiting government contractors from discriminating against employees and applicants. This order is creating fear and confusion in the government and private sector alike.
We need a real, solutions-based conversation in this country about how to continue to ensure that the best and brightest rise to the top. Trump's abrupt DEI order ain't it, folks.
Merit-based hiring should always be the practice — whether in government, the military, or the private sector. That's why so many companies have implemented policies over the years to remove barriers preventing the most qualified candidates from getting the job, because of their race or gender.

President Trump must make good on our promise to our allies, honor our commitment to these individuals, and admit them. They have already undergone thorough vetting and preparation. MI-03 is home to so many wonderful Afghan families.
Over 1,600 Afghans, including those who risked their lives supporting our service members and the family members of U.S. military members, have had their flights canceled despite having the approval to relocate to the U.S., including here in Michigan. This is devastating.
Today we celebrate the anniversary of the 24th Amendment and the subsequent ending of poll taxes, which made it harder for poor — mainly Black Americans — to vote.
Let us continue working to expand access to the ballot box to ensure every American voter’s voice is heard.
