That’s why I’m going to keep fighting back. I won’t let anyone take away this hard-earned benefit from America’s seniors.
And now, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has admitted that the Trump administration’s goal is to privatize Social Security altogether. Hardworking Americans know that Social Security isn’t a “scheme.” It’s a commitment that if you work hard and play by the rules, you can retire with dignity.
Earlier this year, Elon Musk and DOGE officials called Social Security a “Ponzi scheme,” pushing to gut the workforce and shut down field offices across the country. His moves left our seniors reeling; uncertain what was going to happen to the benefits they earned through a lifetime of hard work.
Today marks the 90th anniversary of Social Security – and I’m more determined than ever to protect this essential benefit that more than 2.3 million Illinoisans rely on. 🧵
Today, the United States grew stronger as 400 individuals took an oath to defend our Constitution and become U.S. citizens.
America is, was, and always will be a proud nation of immigrants, and it is my honor to celebrate the dedication, resilience, sacrifice, and courage of these new citizens.
The Trump administration is targeting union workers across the federal government – ripping away their right to collectively bargain for fair wages, good benefits, and safe working conditions. We’re going to keep speaking out against this abuse of power.
I applaud Governor Pritzker for signing the Sonya Massey Bill into law, and we will continue to fight for the justice she and her family deserve.
Nothing can bring Sonya Massey back, but this legislation requiring stricter background checks for police officers offers important reforms that could save lives in the future. www.nprillinois.org/sangamon-cou...
I’m thrilled to welcome @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social to Springfield today to talk about early childhood education. As we fight back against the Big, Ugly Bill which threatens access to programs like Head Start, Democrats are united in our mission to ensure every family has the support they need.
The Trump Administration's decision to strip collective bargaining rights away from the majority of VA employees will exacerbate the staffing shortage at VA and threaten vets' access to care and services. I wrote to VA to urge them to reverse course.
Federal interference in local law enforcement doesn’t make us safer. Instead, the Trump Administration’s unlawful attacks on Illinois' immigration policies have caused fear, uncertainty, and distrust. The Illinois delegation is demanding that President Trump keeps his hands off our state.
Year-round E15 brings vast benefits to consumers at the pump and to farmers across Central and Southern Illinois. We should be doing everything we can to expand access, not create barriers, which is why I’m introducing the bipartisan Ethanol for America Act!
Huge congratulations to UFCW and RWDSU on bringing REI to the table to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement! I was proud to support their efforts by calling on REI execs to bargain in good faith, and I couldn’t be happier to see our union brothers and sisters secure this victory.
It was great to have my entire team together in Springfield last week for a staff workshop! We had the chance to reflect on the past year and brainstorm new ideas so we are better equipped to serve you in DC and out in our communities.
I’m excited to announce $6.4 million in Head Start and Early Head Start funding for Champaign County! I’m going to keep fighting for our kids’ futures. Every. Single. Day.
Ag Day at the Illinois State Fair is the best day of the year! I enjoyed visiting the Commodities Pavilion, talking to FFA students, meeting the University of Illinois dairy cow, and, of course, stopping for a corn dog!
I stand firmly with EPA employees who should have the freedom to collectively bargain -- just like every worker in this country.
First the VA, now the EPA. President Trump is carrying out his executive order to strip union rights away from certain federal employees — a move that undermines critical government functions and threatens the interests of unionized workers nationwide.
We won’t let the Trump administration play games with women veterans’ health and freedom. I’m joining @juliabrownley.house.gov to introduce the Reproductive Freedom for Veterans Act that will safeguard access to essential care, medication, and counseling at VA.
