I was thrilled to host the second New Dems on the Road roundtable focused on clean energy right here in Edwardsville, Illinois. Thanks so much Rep. Wesley Bell and @repscottpeters.bsky.social for joining this important conversation!
Keeping the USPS a public good and defending labor rights are not negotiable. Mail carriers and postal workers are everyday heroes who deserve respect, fair treatment, and the resources needed to serve the public effectively. I hope Mr. Steiner can recognize that. www.cbsnews.com/news/fedex-b...
New Dems are tackling every issue — from immigration to affordable childcare — and working to find practical, lasting solutions that reflect the values and priorities of the American people.
Today, I’m hosting our second stop in Edwardsville, with @repscottpeters.bsky.social and @repwesleybellmo.bsky.social for a conversation about powering the clean energy economy of the future.
The American people want solutions to the issues that keep them up at night – not finger-pointing and political games. That’s why the @newdems.bsky.social is hitting the road, engaging with communities across the country, and gathering the critical feedback we need to guide our work. 🧵
Ensuring that children, seniors, and veterans don’t go hungry should be something we can all get behind. I stand with my Democratic colleagues on the House Agriculture Committee in calling out House Republicans’ plan to slash $230 BILLION from SNAP because Illinois families deserve better.
This week, I led the Illinois delegation in a letter calling on HHS Secretary Kennedy to protect funding for Head Start. More than 36 million children across the country benefit from Head Start - including 28,000 in our state. Investing in this program means investing in our future.
The new pope has chosen the name Leo — honoring Pope Leo XIII, a champion of workers’ rights, fair wages, and unions. A powerful nod to dignity in work and justice for all. What a historic day for working people everywhere — and for America!
Happy Jewish American Heritage Month! Throughout the month of May we celebrate the Jewish community across America and honor their traditions and culture that enrich our nation.
Researchers in #IL13 are at the forefront of biomanufacturing innovation. I’m proud to partner with Rep. Zach Nunn on the bipartisan Ag BIO Act to support their groundbreaking work, strengthen the bioeconomy, and create new opportunities for farmers across the Midwest.
With House Republicans pushing the largest cuts to Medicaid and food assistance in American history, I’m proud to join @repbrendanboyle.bsky.social’s discharge petition to force a vote to protect these programs. We’re going to use every tool we have to prevent these cruel cuts.
Cutting SNAP isn’t just a hit to the most vulnerable in our society—it’s a hit to the heart of our rural economies. It's a blow to grocery stores, to truck drivers, to farmers and to everyone who is a part of this food system.
It was great to join @ltgovstratton.illinois.gov as we met with the next generation of young leaders in Illinois. I shared how I got my start in public service and why it’s so important for women to work together, use their voice and have a seat at every decision-making table.
🚨BIG NEWS🚨 My bill to support Military Sexual Trauma survivors just passed out of committee! It ensures the VA's sexual assault claims process helps, not re-traumatizes, survivors. We're one step closer to delivering justice and respect to our veterans.
Happy #TeacherAppreciationWeek to every educator in Central and Southern Illinois! Our nation is a better place because of the work that you do every day to teach the next generation and equip them with the skills they need to succeed✏️🍎
Preventative healthcare is key to ensuring our veterans have a healthier, more resilient future. I’m reintroducing the bipartisan SAFE STEPS Act to help older veterans prevent dangerous, costly falls. Our veterans gave everything for us – it’s time we give them the protection they deserve.
When a veteran needs care, getting an appointment through the VA should be easy — not a struggle. But the Trump Admin’s proposed half a billion in cuts to VA IT threaten that promise. Today, I made it clear: we should be investing in strengthening the VA, not slashing support for those who served.
We must protect Head Start – full stop. I led the Illinois delegation in urging Secretary Kennedy to take immediate action to prevent any cuts to this vital program. Should Head Start be defunded, it would be a direct attack on our most at-risk children, their well-being and their families.
