Yesterday, ICE murdered an American citizen. The only way to prevent future horrors is to prosecute and ensure full accountability up the entire chain of command.
Today, the House will vote on an extension of ACA tax credits that have saved families thousands of dollars. Speaker Johnson did everything in his power to prevent this vote, but we've beaten him. This is an important win, but our work doesn't stop until it is law. www.cbsnews.com/news/house-h...
As we have seen in Illinois, when ICE descends on a city, chaos & violence follow. ICE shot & killed a woman in Minneapolis. There is no justification for their actions. Do not believe their lies claiming otherwise. All involved must face justice & accountability. Anything less is unacceptable.
5 years ago, I was locked in my office after Donald Trump incited a violent insurrection in an attempt to overturn the results of a free & fair election. Congress passed a law to honor those who protected our democracy that day by displaying a plaque in the Capitol recognizing their service. (1/2)
I strongly condemn President Trump’s unlawful military action in Venezuela. Maduro is an illegitimate ruler, but the President cannot send U.S. forces into another country and seize its leader without Congressional authorization.
Statement from Rep. Casten: I strongly condemn President Trump’s unlawful military action in Venezuela. Maduro is an illegitimate ruler, but the President cannot send U.S. forces into another country and seize its leader without Congressional authorization. The Trump Administration has not shown that there was an immediate threat that required acting without Congress, and it has not explained how it will keep Venezuela from sliding into chaos, violence, or a dangerous power vacuum. Secretaries Hegseth and Rubio recently told Congress this was not about forcing political change, but the Administration’s actions prove that they lied.

“This is not a careful national security decision. It is a major escalation that puts Americans in Venezuela and across the region at risk and could drag the United States into another conflict without a plan or public support. It also sets an alarming international precedent by normalizing the use of U.S. force to remove foreign leaders. The Administration must brief Congress immediately on the legal basis for this action, what intelligence they relied on, how they plan to prevent further violence and protect civilians, and what they will do to avoid wider instability in the region.”
I secured $750,000 in Community Project Funding for Prairie Food Co-Op, DuPage County’s first community-owned grocery store. During my last visit, we discussed how locally-sourced groceries create economic and environmental benefits for constituents.
As the year comes to a close, I always appreciate reflecting on all that has happened. 2025 was undoubtedly a difficult year for our country. In 2026, we'll keep up the fight. You can find my full 2025 Year-End Report here: bit.ly/Casten2025
Following the hateful and antisemitic shooting at Bondi Beach, Australians immediately got to work to prevent the next tragedy. I'm ashamed that the United States, after 393 mass shootings so far in 2025, refuses to follow suit.
My office received over 450 holiday cards through our Holiday Card Drive! Earlier this week, I dropped off cards and met with residents at Mayslake Retirement Village in Oak Brook.
🚨 NEWS: House Democrats have succeeded in our efforts to force a vote to extend ACA subsidies. Speaker Johnson should call this vote immediately. Congress should not leave town for the year without doing everything in our power to stop premiums from skyrocketing.
Today, the Financial Services Committee considered legislation to block credit card companies from using a specific code to identify gun retailers. These codes are applied to nearly every other type of business. It should be opposed by anyone who cares about preventing Americans from being shot.
We are days away from health care premiums skyrocketing for millions of Americans. Speaker Johnson's health care "plan" does nothing to stop this from happening. Instead, it strips more people of their coverage and further limits women's freedom to access reproductive health care. Shameful.
