With 1 month left in his presidency, we're calling on President Biden to make things right & commute the sentences of over 5,000 Americans who would already be free if current crack cocaine sentencing (1 to 1 with powder cocaine) was applied retroactively.

Over 90% serving these longer sentences are people of color.
As a result of the War on Drugs, thousands were locked up on federal charges for crack cocaine offenses with far longer sentences than those charged for powder cocaine. Some were charged at a rate of 100-to-1.
We’ve witnessed too much of this. This is every parent’s worst nightmare—the constant fear that, despite our best efforts to shield our kids from harm, we can’t protect them from what’s happening inside the very places they should feel safest. We cannot keep living like this. Enough is enough.
This isn’t just breaking news - it's the fear every parent feels when they send their children to school. The gut-wrenching realization that no place is safe anymore—not even a school that’s meant to protect and teach them.
The tragedy at Abundant Life Christian School cuts deep, but it’s just the latest in a relentless string of nightmares that Americans have been living through for far too long.
Another shooting. Another school. Another community shattered.

Soror Yolande Cornelia "Nikki" Giovanni was a revolutionary woman whose powerful work inspired the world. She was a Distinguished Professor at Virginia Tech & earned hundreds of awards & honors throughout her career. May her legacy be an example of scholarship & social action.
OTD, the Respect for Marriage Act was signed into law, securing marriage equality for all Americans. While MAGA Republicans continue to push policies that threaten equality and undermine basic freedoms, Democrats stand firm in protecting LGBTQ+ rights. Love is love!
Thank you to Congressman Fry and Senators Cornyn, Hassan and Peters for helping make this a reality. I look forward to building on this work in the 119th Congress.

In signing our bill into law, we have helped open the curtains into this complicated process and, in doing so, we’re making grants more competitive and more accessible to persons who do not have the same types of resources to navigate the labyrinth that is federal grants.
One of the most common issues I hear from constituents and organizations in Texas’s 30th Congressional District is how complicated and confusing the federal grant process is and the lack of transparency regarding how the government reviews and decides on their application.
I am grateful to President Biden for signing into law my and Rep. Fry’s legislation, the Grant Transparency Act.
Freedom isn't free, and Syrians have paid a heavy price to send Bashar al-Assad and his murderous, authoritarian government packing. Syrians have hard work ahead to rebuild their institutions, economy, and security, but the future of Syria must be theirs to decide.
The 14th Amendment granted citizenship for those born or naturalized in the U.S. - including the formerly enslaved.
Chipping away at the 14th is a threat to ALL - immigrant families, naturalized citizens, and millions of descendants of those held in the bonds of slavery.
Trump repeats aim to end birthright citizenship via executive action while also saying he wants to make a deal on Dreamers:

This is more than a miscarriage of justice - it is a green light for more violence against unarmed Black Americans.
Jordan Neely was unarmed. He needed support and care.
Instead, he received a death sentence. His family grieves while the man who took his life walks free.
