As usual, Greg Abbott is an eager accomplice to Trump's wrongdoing. The illegal deployment of US troops against US citizens has never been about crime or immigration; Trump only wants to normalize the misuse of our military against his opponents. Our Texas Guard should be serving Texans, not Trump.
Trump said he'd lower prices on day one; they increased. Then he gave Big Pharma until Sep 29 to lower drug prices to what consumers pay in other countries, or face tariffs. Big Pharma didn't lower prices. More broken promises/empty threats as manufacturers dodge accountability & Americans struggle.
Great to see Austin Habitat for Humanity CEO Michele Anderson, COO Wayne Gerami & Director of Community Affairs Greg Anderson. Appreciative of their work to expand affordable housing opportunities across Central Texas. Looking forward to celebrating their 2025 Carter Work Project in Whisper Valley!
The Republicans' government shutdown means thousands of FAA employees are furloughed, while our air traffic controllers and TSA agents are forced to work without pay. Those traveling for ACL Weekend 2 or F1 can expect longer wait times, delays, and possible ground stops.
In typical Trump fashion, his admin hides facts that prove its failed economic policies hurt American families. Rising grocery prices make it harder to put food on the table. Scrapping a decades-long USDA report ignores this pain and undermines our ability to deliver help to those most in need.
Those aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, like Austinite Greg Stoker, drew critical attention to Netanyahu’s endless war by starvation w/their attempt to reach Gaza with humanitarian aid. After working to facilitate Greg’s release from Israeli custody, I look forward to welcoming him home to Austin.
With a compliant Congress ready to do Trump’s bidding, American taxpayers will soon have to open their wallets to send billions more in welfare payments to farmers for markets they lost through his unwinnable trade war. This is on top of Trump's tariff taxes costing families $2,400 more a year.
When Republicans aren’t lying about undocumented immigrants getting taxpayer-funded health care, they’re hijacking civil servants’ emails to spread partisan propaganda. This must be stopped. I strongly support related lawsuits brought by Public Citizen, a consumer advocacy group.
Thanks to Trump and Republicans in Congress, thousands of FAA employees are furloughed, and our air traffic controllers and TSA agents are forced to work without pay. I spoke to CBS Austin about the federal government shutdown and why it may cause more delays and ground stops at our airport.
Our military takes an oath to the Constitution, not to the president. But apparently, that’s not good enough for Trump, who seeks an obedient military that he can weaponize against American citizens.
The Republican government shutdown has real-world consequences for Central Texans. I spoke to @kxan.com about how Austinites will face even more travel delays at the airport, as well as disrupted or slower services from federal agencies upon which many of our neighbors depend.
With Abbott/Patrick already controlling UT, this new Trump demand probably adds little additional suppression of the free exchange of ideas so central to quality higher education. Federal investment should not be based on how well a university complies with the MAGA agenda.
Instead of stopping enormous price spikes in insurance premiums and preserving access to a doctor for millions of Americans, Republicans opted for the path of maximum cruelty and shut down the federal government. I spoke about the many harms Republicans are inflicting on our families and economy.
While LGBTQ Texans are on the frontlines of fighting back against the erosion of rights and freedoms, let’s recognize that a threat to our LGBTQ community, is a threat to all. (3/3)
As a Vice Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus, I value our continued collaboration to uplift local businesses, advance workplace equality, and pushback against misinformation that leads to discrimination. (2/3)
Great to join the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce, Board Chair Emilie Kopp, Deidre Walsh and many others who make our community a better place to call home. We discussed many current challenges and how we overcome them. (1/3)
Trump’s off-again, on-again tariff taxes are causing real damage to our economy. The chaos and uncertainty prevent businesses from investing and harm relationships with our trusted international allies. Our economy grew at a 2.4% rate in 2024; under Trump growth has thus far fallen to 1.6% in 2025.
Together with freedom-loving colleagues, I strongly reject Trump’s demand to over 800 military leaders that they should focus on “the enemy within.” Those patriots, who have sacrificed so much to serve in uniform, must not be used as political pawns to wage war against Trump's political foes.
