After rolling out a red carpet for war criminal Putin, who is responsible for the bloodshed of thousands of Ukrainians, Trump got zero in return. With one handshake, Trump abandoned the immediate ceasefire he insisted upon, the isolation of Putin, and the innocent Ukrainians the Kremlin bombs daily.
Demanding the replacement of 5 Democrats with 5 Republicans, Trump insists upon a compliant Congress. This is not about supporting a party, but about preserving our democracy. Thousands came to our Texas Capitol, where I again spoke out against Trump’s crooked congressional map.
While continuing to encourage more young leaders, I was pleased to be joined at an event by Dolores Huerta, who created our battle cry “Si se puede!” With 95 years of courageous life, she still fights injustice. Through contributions from all generations, we can stop Trump’s authoritarianism.
Texans will not bow to Trump and Gov. Abbott demands to gerrymander our state and silence voices. Not now, not ever. Joined by freedom-loving patriots, we’re at the Texas Capitol standing our ground against cowardly Republican lawmakers fixated on enacting Trump’s crooked maps.
Great joining Texas Alliance for Retired Americans and Hands Off Central Texas to celebrate 90 years of Social Security. Together, we can defend and enhance this life-saving, irreplaceable social contract so that it’s there – not just for us, but for our grandchildren and great grandchildren.
If this becomes only a conference to appease Putin, similar to the 1938 appeasement of Hitler, Ukrainians will lose, Europeans will lose, and Americans will lose. (2/2)
Donald Trump is all bluster when it comes to war criminal Putin. The president has an opportunity to truly put ‘America First’ by confronting serious Russian cyber threats to our national security and supporting Ukraine after the  ongoing murders of thousands of Ukrainian civilians. (1/2)
Led a letter to POTUS alongside Reps Doggett, Goldman, and Johnson urging him to address escalating cyber threats during his meeting with Dictator Putin. Our people deserve a government that meets cyber warfare with unwavering strength, not one that leaves our defenses underfunded and distracted.
For me, our children/grandchildren, Austin ISD made all the difference. As school gets underway, let's celebrate our teachers, staff & trustees for working to strengthen public schools, despite too little GOP State funds & too much interference. #OurAustinISD changes lives & is worth fighting for.
Long before this month’s Quorum Break to fight Trump’s redistricting power grab, I’m reflecting on my “Killer Bee” experience as Austin’s State Senator. Our short, successful break generated a ballad, a book, but most importantly, a victory to defeat another sorry bill to manipulate an election.
Awful. My heart breaks for Austin Pets Alive! staff, the dogs injured, and one deceased. As the shelter works to find forever homes for their furry friends, if you have information about the break-in and/or intruder, please contact APA! at 512-663-8643. APA! does invaluable work in our community.
For 90 years, Social Security has ensured American workers can retire with dignity. This hard-earned benefit, paid into every working month of your life, is a sacred contract that must be preserved for future generations.
Private school vouchers don’t just deprive public schools of needed resources. With a lack of transparency and oversight, they also throw the door wide open for waste, fraud and abuse, ensuring the public resources needed to educate our children instead end up in the pockets of the well-connected.
Unresponsiveness from federal agencies has increased greatly under the Trump Administration, especially for any visa inquiry. My team will continue seeking timely answers for Austinites from a bureaucracy impaired by Trump's slash-and-burn approach to dismissing experienced public servants.
When the National Guard should have been immediately deployed to protect the U.S. Capitol from the Jan. 6 insurrection, Trump was AWOL. With DC crime at a 30-year low, he is deploying them now in the capital to lay the groundwork to militarize more American cities in the future.
Bill Spelman was the kind of public servant we all strive to be: Smart, thoughtful, principled, humble, and endlessly generous with his time and talent. I was honored to celebrate his life alongside Niyanta, his sons, and his many friends, all inspired by his work for a better Austin.
