🧵 1. It's the 90th anniversary of Social Security today. And what might have been cause for celebration is now cause for concern, as we witness the Trump administration's efforts to gut this critical program.
My office can help with:
・Delays in USCIS case processing
・Delayed tax returns and payments
・Obtaining Social Security retirement benefits
・Expediting and renewing passports
... and other federal agency matters.
Visit fletcher.house.gov/casework to start the process!
President Trump federalizing the police in our nation's capital, where crime is at a 30-year low, is unnecessary and unwise.
It is part of a deeper and deeply troubling pattern of consolidating power and acting like a dictator that betrays not only our norms but our values.
As school begins across #TX07, it is critical that Congress stands with students, families, teachers, and school administrators. We know that they will provide the best education that they can—but they need resources. Dismantling the Dept. of Ed does not help advance our goals or reflect our values.
Federal employees, stretched thin following the Musk DOGE cuts, now face Trump administration union-busting and canceled contracts.
Our public servants have the right to collective bargaining. Full stop.
Glad to join @houstonpublicmedia.bsky.social to talk about redistricting and bills in Congress to ban mid-decade redistricting like the current Texas effort. House Democrats made getting rid of partisan gerrymandering a priority when we were in the majority. The Republicans should do the same.
Republican cuts to Medicaid imperil their work, putting patients at risk. I have opposed these cuts at every opportunity on behalf of our #TX07 neighbors and our providers and will continue to do so.
This #NationalHealthCenterWeek, I visited the HOPE Clinic to highlight both the important work clinics do to keep our community healthy as well as the Medicaid funding upon which they rely.
But today, the Trump Administration has reduced VA staff needed to process PACT Act claims.
I will continue to fight these cuts so that our veterans can get the health care they deserve.
This #PurpleHeartDay is a reminder of the promise we make to our servicemembers who fight for our freedoms to honor and take care of them when they are serving in uniform and when they come home.
This week in 2022, the House passed the Honoring our #PACTAct.

🚨 VA just terminated collective bargaining agreements for most union employees—a direct attack on workers' rights and veterans' care.
RM @repmarktakano.bsky.social and @democrats-veterans.house.gov released the following statement: democrats-veterans.house.gov/news/press-r...
That work is not done. The VRA and the right to participate in our democratic system are under assault, in Texas and across the country. We must work to restore the VRA and to protect the rights of all Americans to vote. [2/2]
Sixty years ago today, our fellow Texan President Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the culmination of the work of many Americans who advocated, demonstrated, and marched for the right to vote and an end to race discrimination at the polls. [1/2]
Nobody is asking for this illegal and unnecessary redistricting scheme. Glad to join "This Week in Texas" on @abc13houstontexas.bsky.social to urge my neighbors to speak out against this power grab by President Trump and Texas Republicans.
President Trump's cuts to data collection are making it more difficult to tell how bad inflation is... conspicuous timing as tariffs start to kick in.
Thanks to @craigcohen.bsky.social & Houston Matters for having me in the studio to discuss the Washington-driven plan to redraw the congressional districts and what it means for Texas voters.

Lizzie Fletcher warned us and she was right.
Listen to @repfletcher.bsky.social detail the TX maps destroying minority voting strength
🚨 Governor Abbott and Texas Republicans are surrendering Texas to President Trump, who has told them he expects them to eliminate congressional districts represented by Democrats in Texas districts so that he can shore up his power in Washington.
This week, I testified before the Texas Senate Special Committee on Congressional Redistricting to explain why it cannot eliminate any of the 13 districts currently represented by Democrats without violating the law and the rights of Texas voters, and why it should not.

Alignment stats consider only votes where a clear yes/no majority existed for the legislator's party. Cross-party marks divergence where the vote matched the opposite party majority. ↔ indicates cross-party divergence.
