My statement on the passing of former Hillsborough Mayor Horace Johnson:
The GOP held a late-night committee vote yesterday so they could strong-arm holdouts and advance their budget bill in the dead of night.
Hiding from the public is something you'd do if you weren't cutting benefits, right?

I am saddened to hear of President Biden's cancer diagnosis.
My thoughts are with the Biden family and their loved ones during this difficult time, and I'm praying for his full and speedy recovery.
#OTD in 1965, President Johnson signed legislation to create Head Start which works tirelessly to uplift kids nationwide.
As a former volunteer, I know the transformative impact this program can have, and I will keep fighting to ensure it receives the proper funding it deserves.
Today marks 71 years since SCOTUS struck down racial segregation in schools in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case.
As our public schools become increasingly divided, I will continue fighting to ensure that every child across the nation can have equal access to education.
I spoke on the House Floor about Trump’s cuts to the NSF, NIH, and more—including $20 million in cancelled NSF research grants for North Carolina.
These cuts are devastating to my district, and are a step towards losing a generation of innovators and letting China lead STEM innovation.

House Democrats on the Budget Committee led the charge and just defeated the GOP Tax Scam.
Republicans have been sent home for the weekend.
We will always protect the healthcare of the American people and never surrender to this extreme agenda.
For all the talk of U.S. leadership in space, the GOP budget contains staggering NASA cuts including a $1 billion cut to the Earth Science Division which helps predict natural disasters.
These cuts endanger states like NC & hamper NASA's ability to inspire the next generation.

It was great meeting students participating in Duke University’s Initiative for Science and Society.
Our district continues to feel the weight of Trump’s cuts to research funding, and I will keep working tirelessly to support programs like these which build the next generation of STEM leaders.
May is #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth. This month and every month, I remain committed to fighting the stigma surrounding mental health and ensuring that support is always available.
Remember, you're never alone. If you or a loved one is struggling then call, text, or chat 988.
I spoke on the House floor to honor the Hayti Heritage Center's 50th anniversary—a milestone that celebrates Hayti’s enduring legacy and vibrant culture.
The legacy of Hayti is deeply intertwined with Durham’s history, and I’m grateful for the center’s work to preserve our heritage.

The Republican budget cuts food assistance to help pay for tax cuts for billionaires. On today’s Democratic Daily Download, @repshontelbrown.bsky.social shows how House Democrats are fighting back every step of the way.

The Farm Bill's looming expiration is placing an undue burden on NC's farmers and agricultural industry.
At the North Carolina Farm Bureau's legislative breakfast, I sat down with local leaders who stressed that a timely Farm Bill reauthorization ensures that farming communities can thrive.
The GOP's proposed SNAP cuts threaten the ability for 60,000 kids in #NC04 to eat—period.
For every dollar spent SNAP creates $1.80 for local agriculture and manufacturing, it pays for itself.
So, these cuts mean less food for kids and higher costs. That isn't 'efficient'.
TODAY 5/14: My office is holding Mobile Office Hours at the Chatham County Historic Courthouse in Pittsboro, NC from 11AM-1PM.
Come by to speak with a member of my constituent services team if you’re having issues with a federal agency – we’re here to help!
The NSF is under siege by anti-science politicians who are cancelling important scientific research in the name of political censorship.
My Democrat colleagues on the Science Committee and I wrote to Acting Director Stone with a simple question: who is in charge here, actual scientists or DOGE?
Republicans are putting the final touches on their plan to cut Medicaid and food assistance by $1 trillion at today's @energycommerce.bsky.social markup.
Americans can't afford this budget. We're calling on just 4 Republicans to stand up for what is right & join us in stopping this reckless scheme.
Wishing a Happy Mother’s Day to the moms and mother figures in North Carolina and across the world!
Thank you for your unconditional love, sacrifice, and dedication—you all give us so much to celebrate every day.
