Today, I joined the Tri-Caucus to mark SCOTUS’s ruling protecting birthright citizenship. While we breathe a sigh of relief, this nonunanimous decision reminds us this fundamental constitutional right cannot be taken for granted. The fight to protect all Americans continues.

Today, I joined the celebration of Riverside General Hospital’s 100-year legacy. Founded on Juneteenth in 1926, it expanded health care access for people of color during segregation. I was honored to meet a 93-year-old former employee who embodies Riverside’s enduring legacy.
In Galveston and across our nation, Juneteenth celebrates freedom for the enslaved. However, there has been no reconciliation for more than 240 years of enslavement, and there can be no reconciliation without reparations. Justice demands reparations.
At today’s shadow hearing & inspection of Delaney Hall with @HomelandDems, Rep. Al Green questioned whether detainees have meaningful access to due process & counsel. Without due process, detention risks violating the Constitution & the promise of liberty & justice for all.
