Welcomed Ohio’s delegation to the National Corn Growers convening in Washington. Thank you for our lively discussion on a broad range of topics including biofuels, tariffs, local output and the Farm Bill.
On Constitution Day, we remember that our founding document laid down more than laws—it enshrined our promise of: freedom, equality, and shared responsibility. In times of division and uncertainty, the Constitution calls us back to respect, to dialogue, to defend the rights of all—not just some.
Each year dozens of middle and high school students from Ohio’s 9th District participate in the Congressional App Challenge. This annual competition offers an opportunity to showcase your creativity and innovation. The winning app will be recognized in Washington, DC and displayed in the US Capitol.
The annual Latino Scholarship Day Parade kicked off #HispanicHeritageMonth! Thank you to all of my friends, both new and old, for such a warm welcome. Communities sharing their treasured heritage with us all is a gift.
I am grateful for her abiding friendship and counsel which she generously shared. She was one of a kind. Holding all of her family, friends, and her community in Cleveland in prayer. She truly loved them with all her heart and soul.
Mary Rose worked hard to promote an economy that serves everyone, across Northern Ohio, and throughout our nation. Her abilities sparkled as she brought joy, wit, keen insight, kindness, and dynamism to every occasion.
As the first Arab American woman, and first Syrian-American and first Lebanese-American to serve in Congress, she dedicated endless hours and years to build new bridges toward peace in the Middle East, and understanding of its complexity for communities here at home.
She not only stood her ground but made her own ground — to serve senior citizens, housing, pay equity, and better health care for women, moving into the ranks of Democratic House leaders where she firmly stood as Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus.
She exhibited raw courage, loyalty, perseverance, high learning, precious humor, and stellar insight into human nature. Her hearty laugh elevated people’s spirits. She suffered no fools.
We were all blessed to know Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar — a highly gifted, indefatigable extraordinary woman of deep faith. As the first Democratic Congresswoman ever elected from our home State of Ohio, Mary Rose was elected to Congress from inside the working class of people.
Tariffs and economic uncertainty are stifling growth and driving prices up for American families. Trump just said he solved inflation, but his policies keep causing prices to rise. Promises made, and promises broken.
Flyovers also took place at Northwood High School, Anthony Wayne High School, Liberty Center and Liberty-Benson High School and Oak Harbor High Schools. Also honored as Purple Star schools Waterville Primary School, Anthony Wayne High School, Swanton Middle School and R.C. Waters Elementary School.
Friday Night Lights took a different feel tonight as we gathered at Ted Federici Field at Clay Memorial Stadium to honor schools that support our Veteran and Military families. Our valorous 180th Fighter Wing traced the schools honored as Purple Star Schools.
Honored to receive the Biofuels Champion Fueling Growth award from Growth Energy. I will always work with our NW Ohio farmers, producers, and growers to ensure markets for our corn and soy including Biofuels which are clean, safe, and affordable. What America makes and grows, helps to power America.

As Co-Chairs of the Ukraine Caucus, @repmarcykaptur.bsky.social, Rep. Fitzpatrick, Rep. Wilson, and I unequivocally condemn Russia’s reckless and illegal violation of Polish airspace and its ongoing brutal and illegal attacks on Ukraine. Read our statement here.
