Today I joined Reps Rosa DeLauro, Frank Pallone, Kathy Castor, Zoe Lofgren, and Deborah Ross to call for an investigation into the Department of Energy’s scheme to cancel critical energy contracts. These cuts will raise costs, kill jobs, and unfairly target NW Ohio communities. We deserve answers.
Arbitrary tariffs are a tax on American families. They blindside workers and manufacturers, threatening jobs across NW Ohio and nationwide. We need carefully calibrated trade policy—not hasty decisions that risk prices soaring, supply chains breaking and retirement savings and livelihoods vanishing.

Our resolution to allow new parents in Congress to vote remotely is meeting historic resistance—Speaker Johnson literally shut down the House to avoid a vote. But we have a message for Johnson: we aren’t backing down until we get this done. Let us vote.
Proud of @booker.senate.gov who spoke truth to power. His 25-hour+ stand was more than a filibuster—it was a clarion call in the face of relentless attacks on our democracy. He stood strong for the people, Liberty, and justice for all. Thank you for your courage and conviction Senator.
Pay attention to what is happening at Social Security. DOGE has created serious tech problems, gutted the staff, overwhelmed call centers, and created much confusion in its wake. Pay attention Americans—you earned these benefits. Nobody has the right to them—but you.
Today House Republicans worked hard to kill legislation allowing pregnant House Members and those with newborns an opportunity to vote remotely for a brief period. Then, instead of doing something to help lower costs for the American people, Speaker Johnson shut the House down for the week.
Introduced the bipartisan Law Enforcement Training for Mental Health Crisis Response Act yesterday alongside Rep Bice. 1 in 10 police calls involve a person struggling with mental illness—we must ensure officers have the tools they need to effectively and safely respond to mental health emergencies.
On #CesarChavezDay we recognize a genuine American hero, whose accomplishments and impact changed the nature of our world and can still be felt today. Cesar once visited NW Ohio to support Toledo’s Farm Labor Organizing Committee drawing attention to the long and arduous road to farmworkers' rights.
Oak Harbor and Swanton Public Libraries recently received national recognition for their Summer Reading Programs! From nature exploration to learning with music and animals, these federal funds will spark curiosity and creativity for young minds. Proud to support literacy in our NW Ohio communities!
Had a chance to chat with Dr. Bruce Montgomery at the super market. Dr. Montgomery is a retired local veteran, and physician who served patients at our Department of Veterans Affairs in our region. I thank him for his service and thoughts on issues plaguing Social Security with many recent changes.
Today we honor the bravery and sacrifice of our Vietnam Veterans. In NW Ohio and across America the PACT Act expanded care for those exposed to Agent Orange and toxic exposure during their service. But now the GOP’s funding bill I voted against cut $23 Billion in these life-saving VA benefits.
🚨President Trump’s Executive Order canceling collective bargaining rights for hundreds of thousands of federal workers is an attack on working people. This daughter of the UAW won’t stand idly by. Now is the time to stand with the men and women of the labor movement nationwide. #1u
Opening Day in Toledo is more than just the first pitch — it’s a celebration of our community, our spirit, and the return of America’s favorite pastime. Wishing the Toledo Mud Hens and their fans a season filled with great memories at Fifth Third Field. Play ball!
Republicans promised to lower grocery costs. Instead they’re gutting SNAP and ending shipments to food banks for children, seniors, and neighbors in need. This is an assault on working families. In Ohio, we know the value of a full table. I will never stop fighting for food security for NW Ohioans.
I am outraged at classified attack plans carelessly leaked by the Defense Dept in reckless and dangerous fashion as reported in @theatlantic.com this week. Congress must conduct full independent, public, and private hearings. All those involved put the lives of American servicemembers at high risk.
Joined colleagues in Tucson, AZ today to pay tribute to the life and legacy of our dear friend Rep Raul Grijalva. A fitting tribute to the memory of a passionate champion for our public lands, environment, and true justice for all. We will remember him for the passion he lived with every single day.
Unelected Billionaire Musk and President Trump’s plan to gut Title I funding would fire 10,000 Ohio teachers, including 762 across NW Ohio, while they race to cut their own taxes. Education isn't a toy to play with. Stripping schools of educators hurts students, families, and generations to come.
