Happy Halloween 🎃
Republicans are serving up a real fright—cuts to SNAP, higher healthcare costs, and a never-ending shutdown.
To top it off, their Big Ugly Law is the main act of this year’s horror show.
All tricks. No treats.
SNAP provides 9 meals for every 1 meal given by a food bank.
But Trump refuses to use $5 billion in emergency funds to feed families, suspending SNAP. Food banks, which are already overwhelmed, will be pushed to their breaking point.
In the richest country in the world, Trump is simply being cruel.
Open Enrollment is around the corner for millions of Illinois families, many of whom are bracing for higher costs because Republicans refuse to extend ACA tax credits.
Have you gotten your notice in the mail? I’d like to hear from you. Share the impact of these cost changes for you or your family:
Families in my district are still shaken by Trump’s Gestapo-style ICE raids.
Parents are being taken from their jobs. Children woke up in the night to helicopters above their homes.
No family should live in fear of being torn apart or be afraid to step outside their home.
Families are bracing for higher health costs and lost SNAP benefits…while President Trump builds a $300 million ballroom.
The American people are calling for answers. Got voicemail instead.
Hardworking Americans deserve better than this.
Former Deputy Grayson was found guilty of killing Sonya Massey, an unarmed Black woman experiencing a mental health crisis who had called 911 for help.
Real justice would’ve been Sonya Massey alive today.
We need true police reform that builds trust in our communities.

I joined @budzinski.house.gov and @quigley.house.gov in urging USDA Secretary Rollins to give Illinois more time to act so we can protect families from these harmful cuts.
Nearly 2 million Illinoisans won’t know where to get food this weekend because President Trump refuses to fund SNAP.
This is on top of his Big, Ugly Law that guts SNAP.
Genesis is just 19, raising her sister alone after their mom was detained and kidnapped by ICE.
Her words moved us all: “Her absence is tearing our family apart.”
Genesis’s bravery is beyond what any 19 year old should be called to do.
I’m fighting to reunite her family. 💔✊🏾
Rep.-elect Grijalva won her race by nearly 40 points.
She’s here, ready to serve.
It’s been over a month, but Speaker Johnson refuses to swear her in.
Why? Because he’s hiding the Epstein Files.
@housedemocrats.bsky.social have warned Republicans that Americans’ monthly insurance bills will go through the roof — but they don’t care.
Republicans have refused to even talk about extending the ACA tax credits.

Nineteen Members of Congress came to Chicago to demand accountability from Trump and ICE.
We stand united with our immigrant communities and won’t back down from the fight for justice. Grateful to @jayapal.house.gov for leading this important discussion.
Spent time with our Will County farmers 🌾
Illinois farmers feed our nation — but Trump’s reckless tariffs and bailouts for Argentina are leaving them behind. I’ll keep fighting for fair trade, open markets, and real support for the people who put food on our tables. 🚜💪🏾
💰 Trump found money for Argentina, a ballroom, and even a $230 million payout for himself —but not for families who rely on SNAP to put food on the table.
Trump doesn’t care for the 42 million Americans who need SNAP, including nearly 2 million Illinoisans. It’s shameful.
If it meant giving billionaires more tax breaks or big companies favors, Republicans would hurry back to Washington. But when it comes to helping working families & reopening the government, they're nowhere to be found.
The #RepublicanShutdown drags on another week.
The party that claims to fight waste, fraud, and abuse forgot one thing—Trump’s greed.
President Trump wants $230 million in taxpayer money, and Speaker Johnson is too afraid to say no.
Thank you to SAFE Illinois for your tireless work to end gun violence.
Gun violence is personal to me. I ran for Congress because I was tired of moments of silence instead of action.
We’ve made progress with the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act—but we can’t stop now.
I can think of millions of people who should be President Trump’s priority—Americans who are losing health care, jobs, and food benefits because of his shutdown. Instead, he’s focused on building a $300+ million Mar-a-Lago–style ballroom for himself.
Republicans want to let ACA premium tax credits expire. This will raise your monthly health costs.
This week, my office met with two small business owners in my district who pleaded for affordable care. Their coffee shop workers depend on those credits.
Republicans control the House.
Republicans control the Senate.
Republicans control the White House.
This is their shutdown—one they could have prevented if they worked with Democrats to protect affordable healthcare for millions of Americans.
