The biggest winner: Lockheed, which has enjoyed a $43.8 BILLION bonanza since last fall. No president in history has engaged in such naked corruption. He's looting our Treasury to line his own pockets (and those of his cronies). Add this to the warehouse of receipts Democrats are keeping on file.
Remember when Trump promised (repeatedly!) that his ballroom would be paid for privately? That was a lie. He’s since pressured Republicans to use taxpayer dollars. Thankfully, that effort has failed (so far). Instead, he's giving YOUR money to the very companies bankrolling his gilded fortress!
The Toxic Substances Control Act has played an enormous role in protecting public health + community safety. Sadly, this critical legislation is under attack. Earlier this month, I was invited to talk about the TSCA as part of a briefing organized by Elected Officials to Protect the Environment.
He could be abrasive. But beneath that was someone who cared deeply about his country. Listening to the tributes, I felt more joy than sadness. Which is what Barney would’ve wanted: to be remembered for the laughter and love he gave. For the battles he fought, and the many important ones he won.
Today, we honored one of the most consequential and fearless public servants in modern American history. Barney was more than a fellow Rep. He and his husband Jim—who lived in Maine full-time after Barney retired—have long been dear friends. Someone whose grit, wit, and wisdom were unmatched.
Americans are 25 times more likely to be shot and killed than people in other high-income countries. We can do better. We *must* do better. For our children, our grandchildren, and every generation of Americans to come.
As we honor National Gun Violence Awareness Day, it’s important to take stock of the true scale of this crisis. Since Sandy Hook, there have been more than 450K gun deaths in the U.S. That’s more than the number of soldiers we lost during WWII—and nearly eight times as many as we lost in Vietnam.
Ukraine has fought valiantly to protect its people. I’m grateful we were able to pass a bill yesterday to provide $1 billion in direct assistance to Ukraine, impose new sanctions on Russia, and extend our security-assistance authorities.   We must continue to support Ukraine’s fight for sovereignty.
On May 24, Russia launched one of its most brutal missile attacks on Ukraine since the war began. The next day, President Zelenskyy wrote a letter to the President, Congress, and the American people. That he sent it on Memorial Day makes it all the more powerful. Take a few to read it if you can.
Glyphosate is turning up in more and more places, including our forests and food supply. That should concern everyone. After a troubling story on Forest Service spraying, @rephuffman.bsky.social and I are demanding answers. I pressed Sec. Rollins directly: Are we looking at the whole picture here?
Get a load of this. Secretary Rollins just said “glyphosate is safe” … really? The cancer-causing chemical that Bayer has literally spent BILLIONS on fighting and settling lawsuits is “safe”? Thank you @repmcgovern.bsky.social for holding her feet to the fire on this.
Apparently my blueberry pie wasn't good enough to save ferry funding. Republicans zeroed out $40M in grants communities rely on to get to work, school, the doctor, and the mainland. That's a *sliver* of the federal budget. My amendment would've restored funding. I’ll keep fighting to get it back.
HUGE NEWS: The House just FINALLY passed the War Powers Resolution. Congress has, and always will have, the sole power to declare war. No lawless president can change that. Now, the Senate needs to follow suit. NO WAR IN IRAN.
Republicans keep saying there isn’t enough money for clean water, museums, climate science, public lands, or basic services. But somehow there's always more money for Trump’s pet projects. This is a choice: Trump’s ego over the public interest. Trump’s vanity over the needs of working families.
Trump’s incompetence nearly destroyed the Kennedy Center. Now he wants to “transfer it back to Congress”!?!? First: What the hell does THAT mean? Second: We need answers on how the Center will be run moving forward (and Congress’s oversight role). My amendment simply called for more transparency.
