The Andre family came to this country seeking asylum, and have been living in Portland—where Olivia is a first-year nursing student—for years.
These are not the “worst of the worst” that ICE insists it’s going after. They’re a tight-knit family doing the best they can to make it. (3/4)

The conditions at Dilley are deplorable, with detainees reporting severe lack of medical care and inadequate access to food and water.
Olivia has lost over 20 pounds. In her letter to me, she said she felt “lost, alone, and many times feel like I no longer have the strength to keep going.” (2/4)
🧵
Olivia Andre remains in ICE custody at Dilley, despite her mother and siblings—who were detained with her—having already been released.
ICE has failed to provide a clear written explanation for why Olivia continues to be detained. This lack of transparency is unacceptable and indefensible. (1/4)
Congress is often a serious, stressful place. These rooms are where high-stakes hearings happen, tough decisions get made + major fights play out. Especially these days.
Today was no different. But we also got a rare moment of respite, all in support of an important cause: protecting birds of prey.
Republicans love to talk about “living within our means” when it comes to spending—except for the Pentagon, whose budget they want to increase by *40%*.
Meanwhile, their cuts to the Forest Service are having a huge impact on research + wildfire management.
The damage they’re doing is incalculable.
As ever, Republicans say one thing, and do the opposite.
Republicans claim to care about “Making America Healthy Again.” At the same time, they’ve:
🚨 Proposed cutting WIC fruit + veg benefits
🚨 Made it harder for people to access healthy food
🚨 Slashed local food programs
🚨 Done nothing to address PFAS
🚨 Done nothing to reduce chemicals in our foods
I wholeheartedly supported @meeks.house.gov's bill to reaffirm our authority to declare war, force Trump to end the conflict within 60 days and bring our troops home.
Republicans voted it down. AGAIN. Because they care more about appeasing and enabling their Mad King than actually doing their jobs.
By every metric, Trump’s war has been a total failure.
61% oppose it.
There’s no plan.
The regime is still in place.
The Strait—which was open *before* the war—remains blocked.
Gas prices are sky high.
It’s costing us more than $1 BILLION per day.
And Congress still hasn’t authorized it.
DeJoy did massive damage to the USPS. The mess he left has been exacerbated by ongoing consolidation efforts (and Trump’s attacks on mail-in voting.)
It’s critical that we protect the reliability + independence of the USPS. Not only as an essential public service, but as a pillar of our democracy.
Since January, my office has heard from 100+ constituents about delayed or inconsistent mail. Some have gone weeks without receiving a delivery.
This is unacceptable. People—especially seniors and small business owners—depend on the USPS for medications, Social Security checks, and so much more.
You know who’s LOVING today, though? Billionaires and big corporations, who are making out like bandits thanks to huge tax breaks in the Big Ugly Bill.
Republicans love to brag about being “the party of working people.”
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Tax Day isn't fun. But Republicans are making this year especially painful.
Remember when Trump promised people would save “$1K or more” on their taxes? Another empty promise.
Instead we've gotten:
⛽️ A historic spike in gas prices
🛒 Higher grocery costs
💵 Tariffs that've cost families >$1,700
Our bill wold allow Congress to hold hearings and gather evidence we might not get through the impeachment process.
We must take Trump's threats and clear mental decline seriously. The damage this man could do over the next three years is horrifying to imagine.
We simply can't take that risk.
Trump’s recent behavior leaves little doubt that he no longer has the fortitude and faculties necessary to serve as President.
@raskin.house.gov is leading a bill that would create a nonpartisan commission to assess Trump's fitness under the 25th Amendment.
I'm a proud cosponsor of this effort.
Trump and Republicans campaigned on lowering costs for everyday Americans. They’ve only made things worse—for family farmers, and for the millions of people who depend on them.
If we want to get out of this mess, common-sense legislation like the FFRA is a great place to start.
I’ve heard from many farmers who’ve been hurt by Trump’s tariffs.
Either they can’t afford new equipment, or they're struggling with huge increases in input costs (diesel, fertilizer, etc.)—and can’t make ends meet.
The FFRA would address this crisis. Republicans refuse to bring it to the floor.
Just because she was fired doesn’t let her off the hook. She’s still required to comply with the subpoena.
The American people deserve the truth, and the victims deserve justice—not more coverups and corruption from people who only care about protecting the president from accountability.
Pam Bondi was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight Committee to answer questions about her role in the Epstein files fiasco.
She didn’t show up.
Republicans are letting it slide, saying any outrage is “purely performative.”
BULLSHIT.
Those contempt charges can’t come fast enough.
How Congress responds now will determine whether every person who works in this institution feels safe reporting misconduct without fear of retaliation.
Perpetrators of sexual assault and harassment must be held accountable. No title, no office, and no political affiliation changes that. (3/3)

Alignment stats consider only votes where a clear yes/no majority existed for the legislator's party. Cross-party marks divergence where the vote matched the opposite party majority. ↔ indicates cross-party divergence.
