Catharyne, a healthcare worker, made it plain: Republicans created a healthcare crisis that will cause hospitals to close, healthcare costs to jump, & lives to be put at risk. But instead of working with Democrats to address that harm, Republicans have shut down the government.
The harm of this Republican-manufactured government shutdown is being felt across the #MA7. That's why I convened workers, families, & labor leaders to sound the alarm, demand Republicans re-open the government, and mitigate the shameful healthcare crisis they created.

MA residents Torleif and Adnaan Stumo, and everyone else taken from aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla should be immediately freed. It is unconscionable that the Israeli military continues to block humanitarian aid, food, water, and baby formula. End the genocide & surge aid into Gaza NOW.
Tony has stage-four thymic carcinoma. With the expanded ACA tax credits, he's been able to get life-saving care. Without them, his healthcare costs would jump & he'd have to drop his coverage altogether. While Democrats fight for families like his, Republicans chose to shut down the government.
Trump and Republicans have shamefully shut down the government. While I work to re-open the government and protect our communities, my office will remain available to assist #MA7 constituents. Here's how we got here and what you need to know:
Republicans wanted a shutdown

Each year, Congress has a responsibility to pass a budget to fund government operations for the fiscal year.

Democrats have been persistent to maintain and restore funding for the programs our communities need and demanding Republicans address the healthcare crisis they have created.

But since Day 1, Trump and Republicans have been working to gut our government and rip away essential services and federal jobs.
What is the impact?

Without action by Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress, many of the Affordable Care Act tax credits that help families get health insurance will expire and tens of thousands of people in the MA-07 will see healthcare costs surge. In our district:

29,000 people would see their healthcare costs rise if Republicans let these critical tax credits expire; and

35,512 people would lose health coverage because of Republican cuts to MassHealth in the Big, Ugly Law and their plot to gut the Affordable Care Act.
What is the impact?

The consequences are dire for folks in the Massachusetts 7th and beyond:

Evictions could rise;
Seniors could go without assistance from federal agencies;
Federal workers and contractors could miss paychecks;
Women, children, and infants could lose essential nutrition assistance;
Relief from natural disasters would be delayed;
And so much more.
What I’m advocating for

Republicans control the House, Senate and White House right now and need to put forward a budget that addresses the healthcare crisis that their harmful policies have created.

Our communities deserve better. Republicans should stop playing games with people’s lives and work with Democrats to keep the government open and address the harm they caused.
By shutting down the government, Trump and Republicans are threatening the lives and livelihoods of millions of families. I'll keep fighting to reopen the government, mitigate the Republican-caused healthcare crisis, and protect our communities. My full statement:
Pressley Slams Republicans for Shutting Down Government, Creating Healthcare Crisis (1/2):

“This Republican-manufactured shutdown is threatening the lives and livelihoods of millions of families by ripping away essential healthcare, gutting federal jobs, and cutting the critical services that are a lifeline for our communities.

“Donald Trump and his Republican co-conspirators continue to demonstrate contempt for the people and advance harmful policies that make people hungrier, poorer, sicker, and less safe.
Pressley Slams Republicans for Shutting Down Government, Creating Healthcare Crisis (2/2)

“As duly elected Members of Congress, it is not only our duty, but our obligation, to make life better for the people we serve.

“Instead, Republicans have shamefully pushed the country into a dangerous government shutdown, and our constituents deserve better.

“I refuse to accept this future as an inevitability, and I will continue to fight to reopen the government, keep essential services running, mitigate the Republican-caused healthcare crisis, and center the dignity, humanity, and safety of folks in the Massachusetts 7th and across the country.”
Proud to stand with families & workers who'd be harmed by a Republican government shutdown. It's shameful that Republicans would rather shut down the government than address the healthcare crisis they created. Democrats are ready to fund the government & protect our families.

Rep. Pressley holds and listens attentively as a former USAID worker describes her experience of being laid off and the harm of a government shutdown.
Government funding runs out tomorrow and Republicans are cheering for a shutdown and pushing a terrible bill that would push healthcare out of reach for families. To the 29,000+ people in the #MA7 who would be impacted: I’m fighting for you.
A graphic that reads: If Republicans let healthcare tax credits expire 29,000 people in the MA-07 will see healthcare costs skyrocket.
Heartbroken by the mass shooting in Grand Blanc, Michigan and pray for everyone impacted. No one should ever fear this type of violence, especially in a place of worship. Congress must pass gun violence prevention legislation and stop this cycle of violence once and for all.
BREAKING: A shooting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc leaves multiple victims and the building is on fire, police say. The shooter is down, police said. This is a developing story.
Republicans created a healthcare crisis by kicking millions off their insurance and causing millions more to face higher premiums. Now, they'd rather shut down the government than work with Democrats to address the harm they caused. Our communities deserve better.
Happy Karen Holmes Ward Day, Boston! Karen, you've shaped the stories of our lives, and you deserve to be celebrated. I'll always be grateful for all the ways you've shown up for me. Congratulations on an incredible career and a hard-earned retirement.
Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Karen Holmes Ward pose for a photo.
We're facing an alarming eviction crisis in towns like Randolph in the #MA7. And Trump's attacks on HUD and cuts to affordable housing funding is making it worse. We must keep fighting to affirm safe, affordable housing as the human right that it is. www.bostonglobe.com/2025/09/18/m...
Trump and ICE are terrorizing Black & brown families, abducting our neighbors off the street, & putting our constituents at risk. For folks like Luiz and so many others, my office will continue conducting oversight & standing with our immigrant neighbors. www.boston.com/news/local-n...
Paul Dama means so much to so many in our community. His release is a powerful reminder of what is possible when our community comes together, rallies behind a beloved neighbor, and stands firm in the face of Trump & ICE’s shameful reign of terror. www.wgbh.org/news/local/2...
