Yesterday was a great day for young people in Chesapeake with the Launch of the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Virginia Club Teen Center Renovation Project.
The renovated facility will help young people stay on the right track with mentoring and career planning services
In FY23, I secured $3 million in community project funding through the federal appropriations process for the City of Chesapeake’s first public pool, to be constructed at the Cuffee Community Center. It was great to be at the groundbreaking today!

Earlier today I visited THRIVE Peninsula, a food pantry in Newport News.
The Trump Administration must use the contingency funds available to fully fund SNAP benefits in November. Millions of Americans across the country rely on SNAP to put food on the table, including 824,000 Virginians.

Federal courts confirmed what we said from the start: the Trump administration was breaking the law when it suspended SNAP benefits for 42 million Americans. They have a $5 billion contingency fund and transfer authority.
They simply refused to use it to feed hungry families.
House Republicans must end their weeks-long vacation and work with Democrats to fund the government and protect the health care of the American people.
Earlier today, I visited with TSA workers at Norfolk International Airport.
TSA workers across the country have been incredibly strained during the government shutdown while they are asked to work without pay to keep Americans safe.
The Trump Administration’s plan to fire over half the employees in the Chesapeake Bay Office is a direct attack on the decades-long work to preserve the Bay.

Donald Trump has ordered the Department of Agriculture to not use its reserve funds when SNAP dries up at the end of the month.
Over 800,000 Virginians will go hungry in November because of this choice.
Today marks Day 28 of the government shutdown and Day 39 of the House Republicans' vacation. I am headed back to Washington and I am ready to vote to fund the government and protect health care.
