Melanie A. Stansbury

Melanie Ann Stansbury is an American politician and former ecology instructor serving as the U.S. representative for New Mexico's 1st congressional district since 2021. The district includes the majority of Albuquerque and most of its suburbs. A Democrat, Stansbury previously served as a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives for the 28th district from 2019 to 2021.

Trump has announced another ceasefire. Let us hope it is real and let us hope it holds. It’s time to end this illegal war, which has cost the lives of thousands of civilians, 13 American service members, and billions of taxpayer dollars. War Powers, 25th Amendment, and Impeachment NOW.
It’s Earth Day this week and days after our astronauts returned from their mission around the moon—so it seems particularly ironic that the GOP is using this week to gut our bedrock environmental laws—including the ESA and NEPA. We’re back at it defending our communities and our planet!
History has shown us that every setback in American history has been followed by a wave of innovation and change. We are right at the precipice of change. So—even in this dark time—we have to be honest about where we are, but also prepare for what is possible.
Americans are suffering whether it’s the cost of food, housing, gas, or utilities. The President’s failure to address inflation, his tariffs, and his wars are driving the American people over an economic cliff—and it must stop! We need housing, health care and free childcare for all!
It’s tax week. And, the bipartisan DOGE reboot is back—talking taxes and the IRS. 😱 But look, we can’t talk about the IRS without being honest: The tax code is broken.  And, American families are suffering. Now they want to do another Big Ugly Bill and make it worse—so let’s talk about it!
