Jan. 6 will forever serve as a reminder that democracy is not guaranteed. This year and every year, we remember and honor the sacrifices of law enforcement that kept the Capitol safe and defended democracy in 2021.

Today, Congress will certify the election results. The peaceful transfer of power is the most fundamental aspect of American democracy – I’m glad we’re not expecting violence and chaos this year.
Virginia – this weekend and into Monday, we’re expecting some winter weather. Stay alert to changing conditions, prepare your home and car, and check in on vulnerable neighbors. VDEM has some great additional insight here: www.vaemergency.gov/threats/wint...
New year, new savings brought to you by Democrats: Seniors on Medicare Part D will now have ALL their out-of-pocket prescription costs capped at $2,000 per year – saving the average Virginia senior almost $450! www.warner.senate.gov/public/index...
Thrilled to see my friend @kaine.senate.gov sworn in for another term serving Virginia. There’s no better partner, Senator, or friend.
ICYMI: We passed a significant disaster aid bill for the people of Southwest Virginia, with critical resources to help small businesses, public lands, and individuals recover. I’m still upset it took so long, but I am ready to ensure it’s implemented well.

ICYMI: We surpassed President Trump’s record and confirmed 235 highly-qualified judges under the Biden-Harris admin, including several for Virginia! Thrilled we got the Senate to work efficiently putting brilliant jurists on the bench.
Interesting turn of events: Trump called TikTok a national security risk, but now he’s asking for a stay on a congressionally-passed ban. 🤔
Today, we celebrate the rare alignment of Christmas and the first night of Hanukkah! To all celebrating across the Commonwealth, I wish you a joyous and peaceful celebration with family and loved ones, and a year ahead filled with light and warmth.
I’m proud to say that my casework team recouped over $11 MILLION this year for Virginians from the federal government.
My team is the best in the business, and I’m so proud of the work they do helping Virginians navigate the federal bureacracy.
I’m glad we averted a government shutdown and passed essential disaster aid for Southwest Virginians, but Virginians deserve more than this constant chaos. Shutdowns aren’t victimless crimes – we need to negotiate robust, bipartisan spending bills.
My statement with @kaine.senate.gov and Governor Youngkin on a classified briefing we just received about the unexplained drone sightings in Virginia.
It is just incredible that Donald Trump has yet to take office and his first presidential maneuver will be shutting down the government.
It’s a sad state of affairs when the richest man in the world can send us straight towards a government shutdown.
He’ll be fine, but a lot of the servicemembers working without paychecks during Christmas won't be.
While billionaires throw the House Republicans into chaos, Americans hurt by natural disasters are still waiting for aid.
We need to get a disaster supplemental done.
THRILLED to see us pass our annual defense bill, which contains a sizable raise for our servicemembers, investments in child care facilities, food security assistance, and more. Glad to support the needs of servicemembers by getting this done.
Heading to the floor soon to speak in defense of our federal workers. The new administration is making some big threats to the independence and the future of the civil service – I’m joining @kaine.senate.gov and going on the offensive to try to get some protections in place.
I’m working across the aisle to get disaster aid done as soon as we can.

Good to hear an update on Helene disaster response from VDEM, FEMA, and law enforcement. I’m fighting tooth and nail to get a robust disaster assistance package passed before the end of the year so we have the resources we need for Virginia’s long term recovery.
