This week, Republicans marked up a bill to take health care and food assistance away from millions of Americans in order to pay for tax breaks for Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. The Democratic Doctors Caucus will stop at nothing to prevent these reckless cuts and stand up for our communities.

“The goal of the Republican budget is clear: sacrifice the health and well-being of millions of Americans by slashing Medicaid and gutting food assistance, all to hand $4.5 trillion in tax breaks to billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. As doctors, we’ve seen firsthand what happens when patients lose coverage: missed appointments, skipped medications and preventable conditions left untreated. These cuts won’t just strain the system—they will cost lives. These aren’t numbers on a spreadsheet—they represent real people, real suffering and real consequences. "My office has worked tirelessly to bring our Afghan allies to the United States to protect them from persecution from the Taliban.

"These brave men and women stood by our troops in Afghanistan—translating, advising and risking their lives to keep our service members safe. We made a promise to protect them in return.

"Many of these allies have since resettled in Sacramento County, building new lives and contributing to our community.

"It is unconscionable for the Trump Administration to revoke Temporary Protected Status and now force many to return to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, where they could face persecution, imprisonment or even death."
