Trump’s elimination of important USDA programs, combined with deep cuts to SNAP, is making it harder for food banks to stay open and families to keep food on the table. I refuse to let our neighbors go hungry and I met with leaders in Carlinville today to talk about how we’re fighting back.
This bill is a slap in the face to all who have courageously served our nation and made immense sacrifices to defend the freedoms we hold dear. I was proud to vote no and to side with what is right for our troops.
It directs DoD to make almost $8 billion in cuts – putting troop pay on the chopping block. It’s appalling that House Republicans would force our heroes in uniform to take a pay cut so that billionaires can get a tax break.
It attacks LGBTQ+ servicemembers with hateful policies and prevents female servicemembers from traveling to seek reproductive care, even when they’re stationed in a state where it is unavailable. These policies will undermine our troops' health, morale, and readiness.
This bill is a highly-partisan spending plan that hurts our military readiness and undermines the welfare of our servicemembers. It’s yet another cynical attempt by House Republicans to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations – this time on the backs of our troops.
These cuts jeopardize local public broadcasting, strip access to critical healthcare, gut lifesaving emergency programs, and undermine our support for global allies. It doesn’t make us stronger — it makes us weaker.
Let’s be clear: the funding they just voted to slash was passed with bipartisan support and signed into law. Walking away from those commitments isn’t just irresponsible — it’s reckless.
I’m excited to announce that after a hard-won battle, my bipartisan BOOTS Act is advancing as part of the annual defense authorization bill! By requiring troops to wear American-made combat boots, this legislation will protect U.S. manufacturing jobs and keep our servicemembers safe.
President Trump’s decision to eliminate the 988 LGBTQ+ youth lifeline will cost lives. In the face of a youth mental health crisis and rising attacks against the LGBTQ+ community, we cannot afford to lose this life-saving resource.
Five years ago we lost an American hero: Congressman John Lewis. Congressman Lewis’ leadership has inspired me throughout my career in public service, and his legacy will endure forever as a reminder to challenge injustice, fight for our democracy, and make good trouble.
Traveling office hours are TODAY! Catch my team in Carlinville, Virden, Monticello, and Staunton to learn more about how we can help you with constituent services.
The Trump Administration has walked back its plan to fire more than 80,000 VA employees, but they’re still trying to force staff out through attrition & retirements. With 1,172 IT employees resigning so far, I’m seriously concerned about how this vacancy will impact services for our vets.
I always love meeting with FFA officers from Illinois! These young leaders represent the future of American agriculture and I’m proud to be their partner in Congress.
Are you having an issue with a federal agency? Are you curious how my team can help? Visit our traveling office hours TOMORROW to get all your constituent services questions answered! Details here:
As the aunt of a nephew with down syndrome, I know just how special our special educators are! I was glad to meet with the Illinois Alliance of Administrators of Special Education to share my commitment to ensuring every student in Illinois has the resources they need to thrive.
