Today is Purple Heart Day, when we remember the bravery and sacrifices of Americans who were wounded or lost their lives in service of our nation. They have helped safeguard the United States and all it stands for.

The Northwest will continue to benefit from air assets, and I hope that more of them can be deployed throughout the region, as smoke allows, to help Spokane and Okanogan counties, the Spokane and Colville tribes, and especially Chelan area communities impacted by the Little Giant Fire. (3/4)
Today Interior Sec. Burgum, Agriculture Sec. Rollins, DOI Wildland Fire Service Director Brian Fennessy, and USFS officials briefed Senators on keeping assets in the Northwest as we are at a Preparedness Level 5, an extreme wildfire designation. (1/4)
Today is the 6th anniversary of our successful fight to pass the Great American Outdoors Act. This law fully funded the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which has invested over $730 million in conserving open space and public lands in Washington since its creation.
Today I joined the entire WA congressional delegation in a letter to President Trump supporting an expedited Emergency Declaration for counties and tribes affected by the large, fast-moving wildfires across our state.

I am monitoring the dangerous fires in Spokane and across Central Washington. My office and I are in contact with local, state, and federal agencies to help make sure firefighters and first responders have the resources they need. (1/2)
More than 15,000 low-income families in Washington rely on the Child Care and Development Fund. Today, Senate Republicans voted to keep a Trump Administration policy that will make childcare more expensive and less accessible for many of those families. (1/2)
Medicare and Medicaid were signed into law on this day 61 years ago. Today, nearly 2 in 5 Americans & more than 3 million Washingtonians – including hundreds of thousands of children – rely on these programs for affordable healthcare. We must protect these life-saving programs.

GDP data released this morning revealed, again, that the economy is not growing at a pace we need to have any confidence for the future. A 1.5% rate of growth in the second quarter of 2026 is another warning sign that the economic policies of this Admin are wrong-headed & need to be changed.
Thank you to the WA members of Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) who visited me in DC! We got the chance to talk about the importance of BGCA for young people across our state, along with the important work that these BGCA members are doing to better their communities.

Great to meet with members of RESULTS Washington who came to talk to me about ways to reduce poverty. We discussed big issues in WA, across the nation, and abroad, including access to food assistance, healthcare, and housing.
