It hasn’t gone unnoticed by me or my constituents. As I said earlier this month, AmeriCorps plays a vital role in our communities—and it’s being gutted to fund more tax breaks for billionaires like Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
More than 32,000 low-paid AmeriCorps service workers were terminated in a sweeping budget cut last month that gutted the national service program. The April 25 move was one of the biggest government cutbacks since the Trump administration took office, but went largely unnoticed. Here’s why:
On Memorial Day, I was extraordinarily honored and humbled to pay tribute to the family of SPC Grant Yohnka, who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms and values we hold dear today. On behalf of a grateful nation, we thank him for his service and sacrifice.
On Memorial Day we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives for our country. May we all take the time to reflect on their selfless service, recognize their sacrifice, and give thanks for defending the freedoms we cherish today.
The Trump Administration’s un-American assault on the First Amendment, freedom of speech, and the rights of private institutions and businesses continues unabated. Thankful the courts are pushing back against this blatantly unconstitutional action.
Breaking News: A judge blocked a Trump administration move to bar Harvard University from admitting international students, hours after the school filed suit.
The Trump Administration cares so deeply about meritocracy and protecting Social Security that they hired a Social Security Administration Commissioner who had to google what the job entailed. It would be laughable if it weren’t so damaging to seniors across the country.
NEW: Trump’s new head of Social Security says he had to Google the job when he was offered it: “What the heck's the commissioner of Social Security?,” per audio obtained by ABC News More: abcnews.go.com/US/new-head-...
President Trump’s tariff taxes are already causing economic pain in communities across #MO05, leading to higher prices for consumers and job losses for Missouri workers. I’ll keep fighting to combat this chaos and recklessness coming from the White House. www.kansascity.com/news/local/a...
House Republicans just passed a bill that takes from the poor to give to the wealthy, while saddling our children and grandchildren with more unnecessary debt. It’s the same trickle-down economics that has failed working class families for decades, only on steroids.
While you were sleeping, Republicans passed a fiscally irresponsible bill that guarantees a massive redistribution of wealth from the poorest families to the wealthiest 1%, while exploding our national deficit by more than $3 trillion. I voted no. cleaver.house.gov/media-center...
My heart goes out to the family and friends of Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky as they face this horrific and traumatic loss. May they rest in peace and may their memories be a blessing.
The murder of two Israeli embassy staffers, including one American, outside the Capital Jewish Museum is horrifying, intolerable, and worthy of universal condemnation in the strongest possible terms. Antisemitism must be given no quarter in America—and we all must stand up to hate in all forms.
BREAKING: Two staff members of the Israeli embassy who were shot and killed Wednesday evening in Washington have been identified as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim by the Israel's foreign minister.
As President Trump’s tariffs raise costs on everyday goods, local food banks are already struggling to keep food on the shelves. It won’t help that Republicans are trying to cut $300 billion from food assistance programs to pay for more tax cuts for billionaires. www.kmbc.com/article/harv...
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office confirms that the Republican budget betrayal takes from the poorest families across the country to line the pockets of billionaires like Elon Musk and Donald Trump. www.politico.com/news/2025/05...
