5/6 If someone is truly a member of a violent gang, deportation may be warranted—but we must be sure. Every individual deserves a fair hearing to determine the facts. That’s the bare minimum in a nation governed by the rule of law, and it’s why we must insist on due process.

4/6 I wrote Secretary Noem on February 13 to get clarity. I haven’t heard a word back. This kind of silence suggests they don’t want the public to see the truth—and that should alarm every American who believes in due process and equal protection under the law.

3/6 The public has a right to know what ICE is doing—and so do the individuals being detained. They have a right to due process, to a hearing, and to know whether they actually fall under the scope of the President’s questionable authority, based on an 1898 law now being challenged in court.

2/6 The American people deserve to know: – Who is being picked up by ICE? – Have they been convicted of violent crimes? – What jurisdictions were involved? – How many have been sent to Guantanamo Bay? And most importantly—why is this information being kept secret?

1/6 Six weeks after demanding answers from DHS Secretary Noem, I still haven’t received a response. ICE is detaining and deporting people—without telling the public who, or why. That’s unacceptable.
