I have visited Adelanto and spoken with detainees about the inhumane conditions they face. This attempt to cover up neglect and abuse in ICE detention is indefensible.

People are dying in ICE detention at the highest rates in decades, and the Trump Administration is doing everything possible to dodge accountability. This policy was adopted after a former Adelanto detainee died after leaving ICE custody.

I introduced an amendment to delay the bill until this Administration provides transparency on "Defend the Spend." Republicans refused to allow a vote on it. Until we get answers, we should not be expanding President Trump's ability to interfere with childcare funding families depend on.

While parents struggle with the high cost of childcare, Republicans are advancing a bill to make it even easier for Trump to withhold funding from families and childcare providers in states he doesn't like--something Trump is already trying to do using his shady "Defend the Spend" scheme.

I've seen these appalling conditions myself repeatedly, and I have called for Adelanto's closure for a decade. Adelanto must be shut down, once and for all. Until then, we will not stop fighting for transparency, accountability, and humane treatment by Trump’s ICE.

Their demands are simple: clean drinking water, edible food, and adequate medical care. Yet, Adelanto still refuses to provide basic care and detainees are dying.
