While our 6 months of the hottest summer appear to have ended, new reports now indicate that we are experiencing the hottest fall on record in Austin. Longer, hotter summers lie ahead in coming years as too many of our leaders remain caught up in fossilized thinking. www.kvue.com/article/weat...
Ultimately, it is engaged citizens who can protect democracy. Any imposition of martial law by a US President would be a sure indicator of a major turn toward tyranny. (2/2)
Declaring martial law represents a dangerous departure from democracy. Wrongful imposition today by the president of South Korea is now being reversed within hours because of a strong expression of public protest and outrage. (1/2)
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, struggling amid low approval ratings, declared martial law after accusing the opposition-held parliament of blocking government actions. Here's what to know.
I am pleased she could contribute to our efforts in strengthening cooperation with our close and important ally, Norway. Wishing her success as she begins this important and exciting next chapter of her career. (2/2)
Cecilie Juul Stensrud, who has been working in my Washington office as a visiting Fellow from Norway, specializing in Foreign Affairs and Defense, will return home to become the State Secretary to the Minister of Defense. (1/2)
This builds upon $3M in federal funding I’ve previously secured to assist in addressing this serious public health concern. I remain committed to partnering w/Travis County & advocating for resources to turn the tide against this epidemic. Together, we can continue to support recovery & save lives.
Pleased to join Travis County Judge Andy Brown, Commissioner Ann Howard, Travis County Medical Examiner Keith Pinckard, EMS Chief Robert Luckritz, Asst Chief Stephen White, Dr. Nicholas Yagoda w/CommUnity Care & Maggie Luna w/Texas Harm Alliance to announce $1.6M to address the opioid crisis.
Keith Kellogg, whom Trump named as his special envoy to Russia and Ukraine, has proposed a moratorium on its NATO membership and would leave Putin in control of all currently occupied Ukrainian territory. Trump would become the President who lost Ukraine and rewarded a war criminal.
Now with more than one thousand days of war, Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine represents the deadliest war in Europe since World War II. More than 12,000 civilians killed, almost 20,000 children kidnapped to Russia.
While wishing this year’s game was in Austin on Thanksgiving Day, I will be glued to the game as a lifelong Longhorn with an emphasis on those key words of “Texas Fight”: “And it’s goodbye to A&M.” (2/2)
For decades, in our family and thousands of others, watching the UT-A&M game was as much a part of Thanksgiving as turkey. Long ago, I was part of the Knothole Kids—Austin public school students who got end zone tickets for $1 or less to see big games. (1/2)
While there’s much to concern us following the recent election, I give thanks for my family, for the continued opportunity to serve my neighbors & for all who recognize preserving democracy is a never-ending struggle to which each can contribute. From my family to yours, best wishes on Thanksgiving.
Behind the scenes: On-camera interviews may not always be as glamorous as they seem, but thanks to innovative technology, news outlets like MSNBC can coordinate with mobile van studios to meet guests in accessible locations. Had a good conversation from a very compact studio on wheels.
Big Pharma is growing fat through price gouging—charging Americans the highest prices in the world. Without addressing this issue first, President Biden's proposal today to cover weight loss drugs under Medicare and Medicaid only raises false hopes. My full statement ⬇️
Trump and his loyal lapdogs are fixated on repealing Democrats' clean energy progress that makes it cheaper for families to go green. Whether you're in the market for an electric vehicle or efficient home appliances and more, learn about the already available cost-cutting options. 👇
The ongoing tragedy in Gaza is not only about the pain of the hostages and their families whom Netanyahu has abandoned but also the suffering of innocent Gazan survivors, who will bear painful losses throughout their lives. Losses produced mostly with American-supplied bombs and artillery shells.
