The sudden passing today of my dear friend Rep. Gerry Connolly is a true loss to our country.
Gerry was a patriot who fought to preserve our democracy, enhance our environment, achieve better opportunities for disadvantaged Americans, and push for a more just US policy in the Middle East. (1/2)

The less light shed on this sorry proposal, the less opportunity for the public to learn who wins and who loses, the better the GOP's chance of gaining approval for anything Trump demands. (3/3)
First, the Ways & Means and Energy & Commerce Committees met all night long. Then, the Budget Committee met at 10:30 pm. Now, the Rules Committee is applying a little legislative “botox” to enhance the bill’s beauty with a meeting that begins at 1:00 am and will continue into the night! (2/3)
If there is a consistent theme to the GOP consideration of Trump’s “one, big, beautiful bill,” it’s this – they hide its ugly details under the cover of darkness. (1/3)
Standing w/Reps. Clarke, Casar, Sen. Booker, and others in support of Rep. McIver, who is being unjustly prosecuted by the Trump admin for doing her job.
She was 1 of 3 of our colleagues doing the kind of oversight GOP refuses to exercise. Trump will not intimidate Democratic Members of Congress.
Not only do the richest few receive 310x more tax benefits than those making $50,000 or less a year, but low-income families will see a DECREASE in their after-tax income because of Republican cuts to health and food assistance.
Meanwhile, those earning $4.3M would gain over $389,000 after-tax.
Late last night, House Republicans made backroom deals to accelerate their process of denying access to a physician for millions of Americans.
I spoke to @rollingstone.com about Republicans making Trump's "big beautiful bill" even uglier by creating more red tape to deny people the care they need.
Congratulations to the Romanian people on choosing freedom over authoritarianism, with an upset victory from the mayor of Bucharest to become president over an ultra-right-wing, MAGA-supported, admirer of Putin.
Congrats to the talented and determined students who received my nomination to attend one of our nation's tuition-free military service academies.
Young Austinites, usually high school juniors, interested in applying for my next year-end round of nominations should call my office at 512-916-5921.
Like an arsonist claiming they’re actually a firefighter, the GOP preaches fiscal responsibility while adding trillions more to our deficit with tax cuts that benefit mostly large corporations and the richest few.
On my early morning cycling down the National Mall, from our Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial, I note unprecedented glorification of our wanna be tyrant.
One citizen, dressed as honest Abe, in protest, makes clear that the great uniter shares no common values with our present day great divider.
Budget Committee approved Trump Bill, 17–16, with 4 GOP voting present; indicates that their efforts to make an ugly bill, even uglier, are still underway.
Budget Committee finally convenes, but GOP Budget Chair Arrington says he cannot explain any changes that have been made in order to change previous negative GOP votes.
No transparency on what has happened in any back room deals.
At 10:20 pm, Republicans are still arguing over the ugly details of their “one big beautiful bill” in a room adjacent to the committee as we wait for the 10 pm scheduled meeting to begin.
The Biden family is in our prayers, as President Biden battles a serious prostate cancer diagnosis. We extend hope for a full recovery.
Sixty years ago, Head Start was created to unlock early education and child care for millions of children and families.
Thank you, Austin ISD and Child Inc. TX, for serving thousands in Travis County each year. I’ll continue fighting to help our youngest learners reach their full potential.

“They like some excuse for what they’re doing and they want to identify this program strictly with people of color” Rep. @doggett.house.gov explains why Republicans promote the myth that Medicaid recipients are taking advantage of the system.
I’m joining @theweekendmsnbc.bsky.social at 8 AM Central to discuss Trump and Republicans’ “one big beautiful bill,” which is really an ugly lie that increases our national debt by trillions and gives tax breaks to billionaires by cutting food and health assistance to millions.
War criminal Putin has abducted thousands of Ukrainian children and concealed them within Russia's adoption system. Trump illegally terminated funding to track these kidnappings.
With over 50 colleagues, I'm calling for Congress to right Trump's wrong and help reunite children with their families.
