Our nation has a sacred promise to care for those who wore the uniform. The VA just fired (dismissed?) 1,000+ employees. I'm digging in on the impacts, especially at VA PGH. We should be strengthening not weakening the VA & it's workforce of public servants, many of whom are veterans themselves.
Medicaid covers 38% of healthcare for kids, and around 20% Allegheny County and Beaver County residents use Medicaid for their healthcare. The Republican budget proposal would take a sledgehammer to Medicaid, gutting the healthcare of kids, people with disabilities, and so many others. [1/2]
A graphic that says:
Medicaid covers:
41% of all births in the U.S.
61% of long-term care
38% of healthcare for children
Now Republicans want to cut Medicaid to pay for billionaire tax breaks
The whole country is joining Western PA in cheering for Marc Fogel as he returns home after 3+yrs of unjust imprisonment in Russia. This is what every American should expect from their government—we’ll fight to bring you home. And of course, I had to welcome Marc back with a nice cold Iron City🍺
After the Norfolk Southern derailment hurt my Beaver Co constituents, there was a lot of tough talk about not forgetting East Palestine. Now, 2yrs later, politicians afraid of the railroads are still carrying water for their corporate bosses & strangling rail safety bills like mine. Grow a spine!
So my office is sharing some resources that may help as I oppose any plundering of our government or defunding of public services, like law enforcement, veterans’ care, Social Security, and more. (2/2) deluzio.house.gov/issues/resou...
I represent thousands of federal workers who live in Western PA and serve the American people. A lot of them have told me they’re worried about their ability to do their job free from political interference. (1/2)
Remember, defense makes up more than 1/8th of the entire federal budget—around $872 billion every year. It is the biggest way our government spends discretionary money (funds not already marked for earned benefits like Social Security and Medicare). (8/10)
And the crazy thing is that it took the Inspector General to identify this waste and abuse. Our Armed Forces should have the direction and resources to conduct this oversight themselves. (7/10)
For basic soap dispensers—the same kind you use in a restaurant bathroom—defense contractors had the Air Force pay 80x the normal price. For spare pressure transmitters—a key piece to monitor aircraft systems—the Air Force paid a 3,556% markup from similar commercially available products. (5/10)
C-17s are iconic military cargo transport planes. Some are in my Western PA district at the Air Force 911th Airlift Wing. They're mission-critical for our armed forces, transporting troops & equipment and conducting airdrops & evacuations all over the globe. (3/10)
Instead of going after consumer financial watchdogs that save the American people money, or sniffing around peoples’ hard-earned Social Security or veterans’ benefits, they ought to look at the rampant price gouging by defense contractors. Let's zero-in on one crazy example 👀 (2/10)
We're hearing a lot of talk about cutting government fraud, waste, and abuse. I'm all for that. But I haven’t seen any interest in cuts in the place where there is a heck of a lot of waste and price gouging—where they could get bipartisan buy-in from guys like me...the Pentagon! 🧵 (1/10)
I'm all for making government more efficient, but it makes no sense to let criminal corporations & scammers off the hook. I went to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's HQ in Washington this week and I’ll keep fighting to stop this consumer watchdog from being illegally shut down.
Marc Fogel has now arrived safely on American soil after over 3 years of unjust imprisonment in Russia. "Bring Marc Home" has been written on my office's whiteboard since shortly after I was sworn-in early 2023. It's been a focus for my entire team since. ✅ Welcome home, Marc!
