Congrats to Mia Johnson of Kelso High School for winning this year’s Congressional Art Competition.
Her watercolor piece “Peachy Keen” is now on display in the U.S. Capitol!
Thanks to the Clark County Sheriff's Office for stopping by!
I'm glad I could join deputies in Washington, D.C. for National Police Week, and I'll proudly display this hat in my office as a reminder of their important work.
I also helped pass an amendment to direct USCIS to lift their pause on the U4U program – which provided critical support for Ukrainians in #WA03 displaced by Russia's invasion.
I just voted with the Appropriations Committee to pass a homeland security bill that includes:
⚡ $1.1M for electric lines I requested in Ryderwood
🚒 Grant programs local fire depts. rely on
🚨 More funds to fight fentanyl at our border
🛥️ Greater resources for our Coast Guard
⛑️ A $4B boost for FEMA
Thank you to Ag Appropriations Chair Rep. Andy Harris for your bipartisan support of this important effort for families.
When new families have fewer infant formula options – it poses a risk to their pocketbooks, our supply chains, and the health of our infants.
My amendment passed committee to investigate the impact of consolidation in the formula industry – and it was 1 of only 5 amendments from Democrats to pass.
It’s an incomplete picture to just look at trade deficits or prices instead of also standing by hardworking people who drive our economies.
We can tackle wealth inequality and build health when we empower farmers to sell locally and cut red tape that makes it harder to compete with the big guys.
It fails to urgently meet the moment for family farmers hanging on by a thread – all while cutting water and wastewater investments, staffing at the Farm Service Agency, and loans to help rural, low-income families build their own homes.
Unfortunately, the funding bill brought before the Appropriations Committee today was a tired extension of the status quo.
I voted NO to say loud and clear that our farmers deserve a better deal that treats their vital work with the respect it merits. ⬇️
When I speak to our farmers, they’re sick of being told the answer to all their problems is another federal grant they’ve got to fight tooth and nail for.
We need to take on consolidation and level the playing field so farmers can do the work they love, pass their farms down, and have hope again. ⬇️
On Juneteenth, we commemorate the end of slavery in America.
Our nation stands for freedom and equality for all. Today, we recognize those who have fought and labored to secure and protect those freedoms.
Around the clock, @bonnevillepower.bsky.social is monitoring grid resiliency to ensure we have reliable, at-cost power flowing to our homes and businesses.
I visited their control center to hear how they quickly respond to wildfire, as well as how I can continue to support their work in Congress.
My bipartisan team will be holding mobile office hours tomorrow in Tenino.
We’ve now recovered more than $8M owed to folks across Southwest Washington by federal agencies.
I hope you can make it and spread the word!
The enemy of our enemy is our friend.
I support Ukraine because it is in our country's best interest that Ukraine is in the strongest position to bring the war to an end on their terms – not despots like Putin.
Most members of Congress don't have a young child – so it can be hard to see how online slop is killing our kids' attention spans.
Last week, I voted to keep public broadcasting alive, that way our kids have higher-quality alternatives – and so rural families can access vital emergency alerts.
There’s no better symbol of freedom and democracy than our Stars and Stripes flying high.
Happy Flag Day, Southwest Washington! 🇺🇸
I hope the shooter is quickly apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and I'm grateful for the brave law enforcement officers who are risking their lives to keep the public safe.
The temperature is way too high in our politics – and this horrifying attack is only the latest act of political violence we’ve seen in recent years. Our country has serious work to do to address the root causes of these kinds of evil acts. ⬇️
Political assassinations and violence have no place in the United States.
My heart is with the families of fmr. Minnesota Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark – and I’m praying for the recovery of State Sen. John Hoffman, a MN Blue Dog Coalition leader, and his wife Yvette. ⬇️
