So great to sit down with Asma Khalid last night at South Asian Public Health Association's inaugural gala dinner. Thank you to the South Asian Public Health community for having me, for talking politics and policy, and for staying engaged!
On Tuesday night, the American people sent a message: No more Republican attacks on health care. Hold the line. Keep fighting. Protect our care. Democrats are in DC, ready to negotiate. Republicans need to come to the table.
I am appalled that the Israeli government plans to demolish Umm Al-Kheir in the West Bank. Palestinians have called this land home for generations. Any effort to expel them to expand Israeli settlements is a blatant violation of international law. www.haaretz.com/west-bank/20...
Today is the 37th day of the Republican Shutdown. 37 days of Trump inflicting “maximum pain” on the American people. 37 days of missed paychecks, Republicans refusing to negotiate, and bullying from the President. Democrats will continue to hold the line to protect health care.
Donald Trump’s policies are failing the American people. Reckless tariffs that increase costs. Cutting SNAP benefits. Raising health care prices. We can and must do better for the millions of people who need a hand to get by.
Food banks and meal programs across our community are dealing with major increases in demand as they try to fill the gaps left by Trump's withholding of SNAP. There is no point to this besides cruelty. Trump must fully fund food assistance now. www.kuow.org/stories/food...
ICYMI: I hosted a fair with food, utility, and transportation resources for federal workers who are missing paychecks thanks to this Republican shutdown. It’s time for Republicans to come to the table and negotiate to open the government. www.king5.com/article/news...
Feeding the hungry is a moral obligation — that was the message from faith leaders across religions. I was proud to join them this week to demand that full SNAP payments be delivered to our neighbors and communities.
Today is the 36th day of the Republican shutdown — making it the longest government shutdown in our country’s history. Republicans need to come back to DC and get to work for the American people. It’s long overdue.
People across the country are wondering if or when they’ll get their SNAP benefits. No one in the richest country in the world should have to worry about feeding their families, especially hardworking people who have been priced out of living by greedy corporations.
Yesterday, I stood with faith leaders from all backgrounds to say: Instead of spending $5 trillion on tax breaks for billionaires, Trump’s government should focus on feeding every hungry person in America. In the richest country in the world, every single person should have food.
Millions of Americans on SNAP get an average of $6/day. Now Trump is saying that even though there is contingency funding in place, he’ll only pay folks HALF of what they typically receive. So millions of hardworking people will get just $3/day to feed their kids. Shameful.
Donald Trump is an agent of chaos and destruction — cutting SNAP, threatening paychecks, and using this Republican Shutdown to further his authoritarian power grabs. In our opposition, Democrats must put forward a vision that truly delivers for the American people.
I joined Community Lunch to serve meals to folks in the Seattle area who are dealing with Trump’s cuts to SNAP. I’m grateful to the orgs across our community working to keep food on tables — but it shouldn’t have to be this way. It’s time to end this Republican shutdown.
I met Espinoza at the Northwest Detention Center. She was kidnapped from her job. She spent what should have been her wedding day in detention. She was working, contributing to our community, and is now married to a US citizen. This is who ICE is targeting. www.kuow.org/stories/she-...
I stood with faith leaders of all different religions to demand that SNAP funding be fully restored — because feeding the hungry is a moral obligation. There are no red states or blue states when it comes to hunger. There are just people who want to keep their children fed.
