I am deeply saddened by the passing of legendary political giant John Burton, a fearless advocate for working families and liberal values. For over five decades, he served with honesty, courage, and passion, always standing up for those too often left behind.
Recent floods in Texas and wildfires in California show just how essential emergency alerts are in a changing climate. Now is not the time to be cutting support for emergency preparedness. My REACT Act strengthens alert systems—so communities are ready when disaster hits.
Emergency alerts save lives—but only if they are timely, trusted and clear. Today, I proudly joined @kevinmullin.house.gov, Mayor Lurie and Bay Area leaders to help introduce the REACT Act, which would strengthen alert systems so no community is left behind in times of crisis.
This is one of the the worst jobs reports since the pandemic. Unemployment rose to 4.3%, with 7.38 million people unemployed. Hiring has slowed to its worst level since 2021. Trump and Republicans' billionaire-first policies are failing. Americans deserve better.
The U.S. labor market appears to be stalling. The economy added only 22,000 jobs in August, well below the number that forecasters had expected. nyti.ms/4p0gcB0
Trump’s deployment of the national guard in LA has cost taxpayers $118 MILLION so far.   This administration cuts health care in the name of “efficiency”, but has no problem wasting your hard-earned $$ on an unconstitutional power grab designed to create chaos. www.sfchronicle.com/politics/art...
Today, I signed on to Rep. Massie & Rep. Khanna's discharge petition to force DOJ to release the full Epstein files. The American people deserve transparency, justice, and the truth.
This week, Republicans are bringing bills to the floor that repeal protections for millions of acres of public lands, opening them up for fossil fuel development. Instead of lowering costs for Americans, they’re pushing Trump’s pro-polluter agenda. I'm voting NO on these polluter handouts.
Happy Labor Day to all in CA-15 & across the U.S.! Great speaking with San Mateo Labor Council’s Julie Lind about the current state of organized labor. Despite the Trump Administration's attempts to divide and attack our unions, the labor movement is staying as strong as ever.
It was great visiting Mission Neighborhood Health Center in San Francisco. This clinic provides accessible health care to underserved communities in San Francisco. Thank you for your crucial work to make health care more accessible for all!
Conversion "therapy" is a cruel, disproven practice that is incredibly harmful to young LGBTQI+ peoples’ mental health. Proud to join my Democratic colleagues in urging the Supreme Court uphold state bans on conversion therapy for minors. @equality.house.gov
Today, 187 Members of Congress—led by Equality Caucus Chair @repmarktakano.bsky.social & Vice Chair @reptedlieu.bsky.social & @merkley.senate.gov—filed a brief urging SCOTUS to protect young LGBTQI+ people and uphold Colorado's ban on so-called "conversion therapy." Link in bio for more info.

105 years ago, the 19th Amendment became part of the Constitution and American women could finally vote. On Women’s Equality Day, we continue the fight for equal pay for equal work, reproductive freedom, and ensuring women have the opportunity to succeed in every area of life.
Once again, President Trump is putting personal vendettas & political stunts first over the American people.   He’s undermining an independent institution, putting our economy at risk for further turmoil.   This unprecedented action must be fought in the courts.
BREAKING: President Trump fires Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook amid mortgage fraud allegations, opening a new front in a fight over the central bank.
For over 50 years, the Equal Educational Opportunities Act has provided students with limited English proficiency the opportunity to receive equal education. With language access increasingly under attack, I’m fighting to ensure all students have the tools they need to achieve academic success.
Trump & Republicans are increasing costs for families in our community and across America. At the same time, ultrarich Republican donors are getting massive tax breaks. @housedemocrats.bsky.social are fighting to make life more affordable. Republicans are breaking their promises.
CPB's Next Generation Warning System has been forced to suspend its grant program for local public media stations. As a direct result of Republicans' cuts, critical emergency alert equipment will not be purchased this year, leaving people less prepared and less safe.
Public broadcasting provides critical emergency alerts to communities across the country, especially in rural or disaster-prone areas. Now, due to Republicans' public broadcasting cuts, these communities are at risk. 🧵
Trump's latest push to suppress voting rights: eliminating mail-in voting. He knows his extremist policies are wildly unpopular going into the 2026 election, so he's attacking free and fair elections using misinformation & conspiracy theories.
