Doug served with my father in the California State Assembly for six years, and they formed a strong friendship despite political differences in Sacramento. My thoughts go to his family during this difficult time. (2/2)
On his first day in office, he pardoned thousands of violent insurrections, endangering Americans and threatening public safety across the country. I am grateful for the brave police officers who defended our Capitol and saved lives that day.
I support @pallone.house.gov in moving to subpoena HHS Secretary RFK Jr. The American people deserve to hear what actions this Administration is taking to protect us against pandemics, deadly public health threats, and the risk of AI being used to create bioweapons. @energycommerce.bsky.social
Update: Republicans rejected my motion to subpoena Secretary Kennedy because they'd rather stick their heads in the sand than protect the health and safety of the American people.
Proud to stand with @housedemocrats.bsky.social today as we continue our fight to protect your health care. Speaker Mike Johnson must bring an Affordable Care Act tax credit extension vote to the House floor immediately, or millions of Americans will see their premiums skyrocket on January 1st.
Republicans should be focused on helping families afford health care, but instead they're busy discriminating against the LGBTQ+ community. Medical decisions belong between patients & doctors, not politicians. I stand with families harmed by Republicans' transphobic policies.
House Republicans just voted to CRIMINALIZE providing medically-necessary healthcare for young trans people—threatening parents & doctors with a DECADE in prison. We urge our colleagues in the Senate to block this dangerously harmful bill!
“Equality Caucus condemns passage of trans youth healthcare criminalization bill.” IMAGE: U.S. Capitol under a dark, stormy sky, a red caduceus (staff with wings, two snakes) behind prison bars behind the Capitol dome.
“This bill is the most extreme anti-transgender legislation to ever pass through the House of Representatives and a direct attack on the rights of parents to work with their children and their doctors to provide them with the medical care they need. If this bill becomes law, doctors, pharmacists, and—in some circumstances—the parents of young trans people, would face time in prison for choosing to prioritize their child’s health. This bill is beyond cruel, and its passage will forever be a stain on the institution of the United States Congress. At a time where the federal government is already so hostile towards the transgender community, it is imperative that Senate Democrats hold the line to prevent this dangerous bill from reaching President Trump’s desk in order to protect the rights and safety of young trans people and their families." Rep. Mark Takano, Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus.
Families struggling to afford health care don't have time to wait. Affordable Care Act tax credits are set to expire Dec. 31. That's why I signed onto a petition that finally requires a vote on extending these crucial tax credits, and I'm glad several Republicans joined Democrats in doing so.
Earlier this month, many Bay Area residents received a false alarm for a magnitude 5.9 earthquake that never actually occurred. My California colleagues & I sent a letter to USGS seeking information on how prevent future false alarms and ensure the integrity of the early warning system.
🇺🇸🌲Today’s Wreaths Across America ceremony at Golden Gate National Cemetery was a solemn & poignant reminder of the many brave veterans who served our country. My sons & I were honored to pay tribute to the families who visit their loved ones here at GGNC & the many volunteers at this remembrance.
As Americans struggle with skyrocketing energy bills, Republicans are pushing bills that would limit energy innovation & keep costs high. This comes a year after Trump promised he would cut energy prices in half. Why are Republicans undermining affordable, clean energy? @energycommerce.bsky.social
I joined every House Democrat in demanding a vote to extend crucial Affordable Care Act tax credits that help lower health care costs. If just four Republicans joined us, we'd be able to stop premiums from skyrocketing for millions of Americans at the end of the month.
70 years ago today, the Montgomery Bus Boycott began in Alabama, marking a powerful turning point in the fight for civil rights. We honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, & the many heroes who led with courage, and we recommit ourselves to advancing their fight for equality.
Trump has been rolling back investments in clean energy. Now, his reckless offshore drilling plan threatens California’s sensitive coastline. I joined my California colleagues in condemning this plan & urging the Trump administration to immediately halt any proposal to drill off our coast.
Yet again, Trump is prioritizing polluters over working families Americans are already feeling the strain of high gas prices & energy bills. Rolling back fuel economy standards is an irresponsible move that will cost drivers even more money, worsen our air quality and harm the environment.
Breaking News: President Trump threw the weight of the federal government behind vehicles that burn gasoline rather than electric cars, gutting one of the country’s most significant efforts to address climate change.
As the father of two young boys, I'm very concerned about kids' safety online. How do we protect our kids from harm when Trump is firing the very FTC employees who are supposed to be keeping them safe? At today's @energycommerce.bsky.social hearing, I spoke out against Trump's unlawful firings.
