Instead of restoring trust or lowering costs, Republicans want to dump $70 billion of taxpayer dollars into ICE & CBP. All to fund raids, roundups, and fear in American communities. Rhode Islanders have had enough. I’m voting NO on this latest budget betrayal.
The SCOTUS majority decision in Louisiana v. Callais deals a blow to democracy and dilutes the power of communities of color. It’s a step backward and a threat to fair representation. We can’t rely on the courts alone. We must act. My full statement ⬇️
As Co-Chair of the Congressional UK Caucus, I was honored to welcome His Majesty, King Charles III and Her Majesty, Queen Camilla to the U.S. Capitol. The Special Relationship between our nations remains essential to promoting freedom, stability, and democracy worldwide.🇺🇸🫱🏿‍🫲🏼🇬🇧
Great questions from Rep. June Speakman's Roger Williams University Congress and Legislative Process Class! From committees and caucuses to passing legislation to improve Rhode Islanders' lives, it was great to discuss the innerworkings of Congress with these future leaders.
Headed back to Washington, where @houserepublicans.bsky.social are pushing: 📈 Trump’s illegal war driving up costs 🛒 More cuts to SNAP 💰 Billions more for ICE & CBP There’s a better path. That’s why I’m pushing to end the forever wars and lower costs for families.
Trump’s attacks on Head Start funding are hurting families already squeezed by high grocery and gas prices. Spoke with RI Head Start about expanding access to high-quality early education so families can get ahead.
Met with leaders at the RI Public Health Summit to discuss how we can work together to push back on Trump’s cuts harming the health of our communities. Thank you to RIPHA for focusing on solutions that build a healthier Rhode Island.
👋🏿Welcomed College Visions Providence Students to Washington! Enjoyed answering their questions about how Congress works and serves them. As the saying goes, if you can see it, you can be it – can’t wait to see these students succeed in college and beyond.
Spoke with GAVI CEO Dr. Sania Nishtar about the alliance’s work vaccinating over 1 billion children against deadly diseases. Proud to lead bipartisan efforts in Congress to support GAVI’s lifesaving mission and build a healthier future.
Met with Barbara Ozanian from @aft.org to hear about paraprofessionals' vital work supporting students and educators across Rhode Island. I’ll keep fighting to ensure they earn a livable wage and have access to the training they need to assist our students.
Kicked off my day at AARP RI’s Fraud Fighting Fridays in Newport helping seniors dispose of old documents containing personal information and learn how to spot and avoid scams. As Co-Chair of the bipartisan Stop Scams Caucus, I’m fighting to crack down on fraud and protect Rhode Islanders.
Rhode Island gastroenterologists and ophthalmologists are leading the fight for quality care. From eye care to cancer screenings, I’m fighting to stop Trump’s health care cuts so Americans can see a doctor when they need one.
The STEM students of today will power the workforce of tomorrow.🚀 But Trump’s NASA funding proposal risks lowering our ambitions. In the Science, Space & Technology Committee, I asked the NASA Administrator how he will protect funding to inspire the next generation of astronauts & scientists.
Trump’s immigration cruelty continues to hurt our communities. I met with Rhode Island immigration lawyers in @aila.org to discuss how we can protect our neighbors, while holding ICE and Border Patrol accountable.
We only have one planet we call home. Let’s protect it. I’m fighting to protect our environment for future generations of Rhode Islanders. Happy #EarthDay! 🌎
Proud to stand with Rhode Island Building Trades in the fight for strong union jobs, collective bargaining, and expanded access to registered apprenticeships for Rhode Islanders. Let’s keep Rhode Islanders building and our state growing!
Last week, we stood up for our values and voted to extend temporary protected status for people from Haiti, who have long contributed to our communities. Now it’s onto the Senate. We can stand together and show compassion amidst crisis.
BREAKING: I took to the House floor to force a vote on extending Temporary Protected Status for Haiti. We won the first important vote in this process, and now we're a step closer to getting this done. The House must move with urgency and pass this legislation without delay.
