As the only member of the Transportation Committee representing New York City, I voted against this amendment, and I will continue fighting against Donald Trump’s campaign to take over our infrastructure and give a sweetheart deal to his friends at the expense of what’s best for New York.
The New Yorkers who live and work around Penn Station must have a voice in its future.
Unfortunately, Members of Congress—who do not represent Penn Station—just voted to give Donald Trump more authority to make decisions over the massive transportation hub without New Yorkers’ consent.
This bill prioritizes highways over rail and transit infrastructure, omits guardrails to protect the funds from interference from the Trump administration, and worsens the climate emergency.
While I appreciate the bipartisan work that went into the Surface Transportation Reauthorization bill, I opposed final passage through committee due to its woeful inadequacies...

The House just DEFEATED the GOP's hijacked Women's History Museum bill that would have handed Trump unilateral control over the museum's location & banned the inclusion of transgender women.
Read CEC Chair @repmarktakano.bsky.social's full statement here:
Instead of giving the Trump administration more authority to misuse public transportation funds and block out the MTA, we must have strong oversight, guardrails, and accountability to ensure that community investments are delivered for the benefit of NY-12, in coordination with New Yorkers.
The Trump administration has continuously targeted New Yorkers—stalling transit projects like the Gateway Tunnel and Penn Station renovation and withholding Congressionally appropriated infrastructure funding for the MTA and Second Ave subway.
The current version of the Build America 250 bill lacks strong guardrails to ensure New Yorkers receive the investments Congress authorizes in this bill.
Whether Republicans choose to acknowledge this fact or not, transgender people exist and I will continue fighting for their rights and celebrating their identities. @equality.house.gov
Republicans passed their Don't Say Trans bill that infringes on American students' First Amendment rights by censoring curricula and banning books, and could endanger children by requiring schools to out trans students in certain situations, even if doing so would put them in physical danger.
I am proud to support the SPLC and shine a light on their critical work in the face of baseless attacks from those who would rather stand by antisemitism than fight it.
Instead of attacking the SPLC, this committee should be praising the SPLC for its dedication to not only holding those in power accountable, but for fighting the scourge of antisemitism.
Today, House Republicans on the Judiciary Committee allowed themselves to be used as a tool to serve Donald Trump’s personal vendetta against @splcenter.org for its actions holding him and his criminal allies accountable.
Amtrak and U.S. Department of Transportation have failed New Yorkers — and we will not let this stand.
media.amtrak.com/2026/05/penn...
This is not a renovation. This is a takeover — with no idea of the cost, no plan that anyone has seen, and no voice for the people who will pay for it.
Not a single public hearing. No consultation with the MTA or the State and City of New York. No transparency on the cost or who is paying. This isn't a selection process. It's a backroom deal dressed up as one, and the only fingerprints on it belong to Donald J. Trump and his donors.
Amtrak just handed a developer the future of Penn Station — the same way this administration does everything — in secret, without New Yorkers, and for the benefit of Donald Trump and his political allies.
With his sharp wit and fierce compassion, he was a crucial leader securing fair and affordable housing, promoting LGBTQ+ rights, and protecting our financial systems from ruin. My thoughts and prayers are with Barney’s family and loved ones. May his memory be a blessing.
I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my dear friend and former colleague, Congressman Barney Frank. Barney’s courage to come out as the first openly gay man in Congress inspired many, and his steadfast commitment to fighting for civil rights transformed the lives of millions of Americans.
I have always stood with our transgender neighbors, and I will continue to fight against any and all attacks on their existence. @equality.house.gov
