Mass incarceration is a crisis and clemency is part of the solution. In the final months of his presidency, President Biden must use his clemency authority to set us on a pathway towards decarceration & healing. We’re calling on him to act. theappeal.org/biden-commut...
The attack on our books and right to learn has been relentless. Grateful for spaces like justBook-ish in Dorchester that stand in the gap, center a community-focused mission, & help us push back against the silencing of voices. It was a joy to celebrate their grand opening.

Mass incarceration is one of our country's greatest failures—and it's deeply personal to me. President Biden must use his clemency authority to confront mass incarceration, reunite families, & advance healing. We must do everything in our power to save lives while we still can.
Big congrats to my Emerson College colleague and poetry professor Porsha Olayiwola, whose bookstore Just Book-ish opened this weekend in Boston (Fields Corner). On hand were @reppressley.bsky.social & @wutrain.bsky.social Shop local, folks! #booksky #amreading

It's always a joy to join Mrs. Shillingford and the team at Shirley's Pantry for their annual Thanksgiving food drive. Grateful for all they do to address food insecurity and keep our communities fed this holiday season and year-round.

No one should die because they were denied medical care while in custody. My Andrew Kearse Accountability for Denial of Medical Care Act with Senator Warren would hold officers criminally accountable for denying care. An important step toward a fair & just criminal legal system.
A cover image that reads: Pressley, Warren, Lawmakers Renew Push to Hold Officers Liable for Denying Medical Care to People in Custody
A graphic that reads:

What happened:

On May 11, 2017, Andrew Kearse, a 36-year-old Black man, died of a heart attack in the back of a police cruiser after begging a police officer for help. Rather than providing Mr. Kearse with medical assistance, the officer dismissed his pleas and wasted precious minutes waiting until after Mr. Kearse became nonresponsive to call for medical assistance. Despite failing to seek potentially life-saving care for Mr. Kearse, the officer involved was not charged with a crime.
A graphic that reads:

The legislation:

The Andrew Kearse Accountability for Denial of Medical Care Act would:

-Hold federal law enforcement officials criminally liable for neglecting care.
-Require training for officers on assisting individuals in medical distress.
-Direct Inspectors General to investigate potential violations and refer them to the DOJ for prosecution.
More than 60 lawmakers are calling on Biden to use his clemency powers to help "the elderly and chronically ill, those on death row, people with unjustified sentencing disparities, and women who were punished for defending themselves against their abusers.” theappeal.org/biden-commut...

Clemency works. Clemency heals. Clemency saves lives. With just over 60 days left in his presidency, President Biden must use his clemency authority to confront mass incarceration & reunite families. I joined Representatives Clyburn, Gay Scanlon, Omar & our advocates to call him to do just that.

The Senate must approve Sen. Sanders' JRDs to block the sales of offensive arms to the Israeli govt. I’ve met with doctors who tried to save Palestinian children shot in the head. I’ve sat with moms who watched their babies burn & die slowly in Israeli air strikes. Congress must enforce US law.
So proud to serve alongside Sarah McBride, an effective legislator with a demonstrated track record of delivering real results. Disappointing to see Republicans pull stunts like this. They should take a page out of Rep-Elect McBride’s book & focus on actually governing. thehill.com/homenews/hou...
The increasing gang violence, attacks on airlines, and abrupt leadership changes in Haiti have further destabilized the island. For the sake of our own interest, the U.S. must do more to save Haitian lives and we can start by halting all deportation to the island.
US authorities ground all flights to Haiti for 30 days after two planes from the US were struck by bullets.
Birth control is essential to our reproductive freedom. That's why I introduced legislation to #FreeThePill & make free, over-the-counter birth control a reality. I'm joining the ProChoiceCaucus to say #ThxBirthControl & renew our fight to make birth control accessible to all.
